Kodak Innovations for Commercial Print Launch at drupa

Press release from the issuing company

Kodak will demonstrate its latest technologies and solutions as well as real-world successes from its leading publishing market and commercial print customers at drupa 2012. Book manufacturers, newspaper printers, transactional and commercial printers visiting the Kodak stand (Hall 5, F09-1) will learn how Kodak’s portfolio helps them differentiate their business, drive productivity, and expand revenue options.

“Our vision is to deliver more value per page for every customer, and their customers, at the lowest delivered cost. No other company has a portfolio of solutions as broad as Kodak’s and at drupa we’re making significant introductions that will help our customers in the commercial print and publishing markets,” said Chris Payne, Kodak’s Director and Vice President Marketing, Commercial Business. “Attendees come to drupa to strengthen their businesses for the future, and what they see and learn at the Kodak stand will equip them to capitalize on the changing business models and exciting growth opportunities we see on the horizon.”

Digital Printing Innovations for Commercial Printers
Kodak’s commercial solutions create rich, high-quality print communications that are impactful, help increase response rates and can provide marketers with impressive returns on marketing investments. Kodak continues to extend its game-changing PROSPER Platform with the announcement of the new KODAK PROSPER 6000XL Press, a 1,000 feet per minute (304 meters per minute) four-color press with monthly print volumes (MPV) of up to 160 million A4 pages. Ideal for commercial print, the PROSPER 6000XL Press has impressive offset-class quality and prints at a maximum of 175 lpi at 650 fpm, or 133 lpi at 1,000 fpm. The new device joins the widely successful PROSPER 1000 Press and PROSPER 5000XL Press, both of which are already serving commercial printing and book manufacturing customers around the world.

Paper is a significant material cost in both commercial printing and book production. A new Paper Rating Program for KODAK PROSPER Presses and optional Image Optimizer Station give printers the freedom to print with inkjet on a wide range of substrates. Customers can choose Kodak’s prequalified papers or treat a range of commercially available offset papers for more flexible application options.

More than 400 KODAK PROSPER S-Series Imprinting Systems have been installed on six continents over the past three years, and now the family is expanding with the new KODAK PROSPER S30 Imprinting System. Offering the highest speed in the industry at 3,000 fpm, the PROSPER S30 Imprinting System delivers 600 x 200 dpi output and gives web and sheetfed offset printers a high performance choice for hybrid printing applications such as direct mail, inserts, gaming, advertising, package labeling, and more.

At drupa, Kodak will unveil additional enhancements for the KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Color Platform to meet the needs of commercial printers, direct mail houses, photo service providers, in-plant printers, and data centers and transactional printers. The newest NEXPRESS Platform enhancements include new Gold, Pearlescent and Neon Pink printing effects using Fifth Imaging Unit Solutions and can be further enhanced with use of the in line TEC Lighting UV Coater. Additional enhancements to the NEXPRESS SX Platform, including a new turbo mode at 166 ppm, 36 inch/914mm long sheet option and KODAK NEXPRESS Intelligent Calibration System (ICS) version 3 software, are designed to help printers improve image quality, application flexibility and production speed.

Commercial printers, publishers and data centers also have new options for extremely reliable, high-quality, black-and-white printing: the KODAK DIGIMASTER HD Digital Production Systems. The DIGIMASTER HD Systems will replace the current DIGIMASTER EX Series and include enhanced image quality, improved performance and reliability. Three models are included in the Digimaster HD Series: the HD125, HD150 and HD300 with respective rated speeds of 125 ipm, 150 ipm and 300 ipm.

Solutions for the Changing Publishing Market
Kodak’s book solutions can help optimize the manufacturing supply chain and streamline short- and long-run book production. Kodak’s systems also help book manufacturing organizations to drive sustainability and cost savings. The PROSPER Platform is a central element in Kodak’s digital book manufacturing portfolio. The systems, including the new PROSPER 6000XL Press, continue to drive down the crossover point between offset and digital printing, enabling longer, more cost effective short-runs of books. Kodak is also driving innovation in book production with key partnerships.

Kodak and Timsons Printing Machinery are demonstrating the TIMSON T-Press, the fastest, widest digital inkjet press available for the production of black-and-white trade and textbooks.

A fully digital duplex, monochrome book printing system manufactured by Timsons and powered by KODAK Stream Inkjet Technology, the TIMSON T-Press delivers the greatest productivity, functionality and cost-effectiveness of any digital press. The T-Press is a combination of KODAK Stream Inkjet Technology and Timsons’ material handling capabilities offering real production speed and throughput.

Kodak is also delivering innovative products for the newspaper publishing industry, where getting to press fast is extremely important. The new SONORA NEWS Plate is the only plate specifically designed for newspaper applications that allows printers to eliminate processing equipment and chemistry from their operations, saving time and money and reducing environmental impact. SONORA NEWS Plates remove the processing step so that newspapers can streamline operations by simply imaging the plate and going directly to press. Removing the processor eliminates a source of potential variability, allowing SONORA NEWS Plates to deliver stable, consistent plates for reliable quality. In addition, printers can both reduce costs and environmental impact because they do not need to buy, store, and dispose of chemistry.

Maximizing Offset Productivity and Sustainable Offset Solutions
For commercial printers and book manufacturers looking to reduce operational costs along with their environmental impact, the KODAK SONORA XP Process Free Platesprovide the quality, productivity and print capability of mainstream processed plates, but without processing equipment or chemistry. Complimented by KODAK SONORA NEWS Process Free Plates for newspaper, both SONORA Plates provide streamlined platemaking, removal of operational costs, and a reduced environmental footprint.

The KODAK MAGNUS 800 Platesetter is another product with environmental enhancements, including a new power-save mode, upgraded remote support capabilities and productivity improvements through faster throughput speeds. The device also has a new look and now runs on MICROSOFT WINDOWS 7 OS.

The new KODAK ACHIEVE All-in-One CTP System makes it easy for commercial printers in emerging markets to affordably transition to CTP with Kodak’s state-of-the art thermal imaging and plate technologies. Printers and publishers in target regions are now able to increase efficiency and reap the benefits of a CTP workflow.

Powerful Prepress and Workflow Enhancements
A consolidated suite of workflow tools, including KODAK PRINERGY Softwareversion 6, KODAK INSITE Prepress Portal Software with a special application for iPad Devices, and new versions of KODAK COLORFLOW Software and KODAK PREPS Imposition Software, will be shown at Kodak’s drupa stand. These tools help commercial printers increase profitability by automating production planning and resource management, as well as further streamline manual production processes in customers’ digital and hybrid printing environments.

An integrated part of KODAK Unified Workflow Solutions, CREO Color Server Technology will also be on display at Kodak’s booth as well as several partner booths. The high-performance digital front end drives a number of the industry’s leading digital presses, as well as KODAK PROSPER, NEXPRESS and DIGIMASTER Presses to get the most out of full digital or hybrid print environments.

KODAK Intelligent Prepress Manager 2.0 will also be featured. Intelligent Prepress Manager 2.0 is the next generation of connected proactive services that enable commercial printers to harness more productivity and achieve peak quality and efficiency from their prepress systems. This innovative solution gives customers the mobile convenience and flexibility to manage their prepress systems anytime, anywhere, from their smartphone or other mobile device.

Customer and Partners Successes Round out the Experience
Along with seeing an extensive lineup of products and solutions for the commercial print and publishing markets, visitors to Kodak’s stand will hear from customers about how they have expanded their applications and grown their business. With an eye toward sharing information that other printers might take back to their companies, there will be a full docket of K-Zone discussions each day spotlighting these Lighthouse customers.

In addition to customer successes, the Kodak stand will highlight collaborative efforts with more than 40 key partners, bringing together market-leading technology and expertise to create optimum, targeted solutions across all markets.

“Our goal is that every customer who visits our stand takes away new ideas and solutions for driving greater revenue and profitability for their business,” said Payne. “Whether those ideas could come from our products, the experiences of their peers, or the advice of industry experts, we want to engage with customers to help them achieve business growth.”
