Heidelberg Presents Saphira Ink Excel 400

Press release from the issuing company

At drupa 2012, Heidelberg will present the full range of its exceptionally environmentally friendly Saphira Eco consumables. These include Saphira Ink Excel 400, a top-quality offset ink series for four-color process printing developed to help high-volume printers meet an expanded range of job requirements.

Made from renewable raw materials, Saphira Excel 400 inks carry the Saphira Eco label, meet or exceed current environmental requirements, are fully recyclable, and conform to the trusted ISO 2846-1 standard for G7 printing. It goes without saying that these products ensure stable, high-quality production in keeping with exacting Heidelberg standards.

“One of the most recent additions to Heidelberg's line of Saphira Eco consumables, Saphira Excel 400 sheetfed inks furnish high-volume, G7 printers and other users with a cost-effective solution to their printing needs without trading quality for environmental responsibility,” said  Kurt Wiggins Product Manager - Consumables, Heidelberg USA. “Heidelberg continually refines and expands its Eco portfolio in order to provide printers with the greatest benefit for lowering their ecological footprint.”

Lithographic Stability at any Speed
Competitively priced and suitable for publication, commercial, and package printing applications, Saphira Excel 400 ink prints on a wide range of paper and board on all sheetfed press configurations, including 8, 10, and 12-color multicolor perfecting presses. These fast-setting, rapid-drying inks are based on an innovative resin/oil combination that provides busy printers with lithographic stability at any press speed,  superior mechanical resistance, and a smooth, professional-looking gloss. Formulated to produce an abrasion-resistant film, Saphira Excel 400 ink dries hard enough not to scuff during finishing operations, resulting in quicker back-up and fast turn times. Additional benefits include:

· Excellent stack capability.
· Very low misting on high-speed presses for reduced maintenance.
· Use of in-line coating with water-based coatings or in-line/off-line coating with oil-based overprint varnishes.
· High level of renewable, bio-based materials and low volatile organic compound (VOC) content for a “green” solution.

Like all Heidelberg Saphira Eco products, Saphira Excel 400 ink pays off for the printer and for the environment by promoting greener production and by boosting the efficiency of the printing process. Saphira Eco products meet the very highest standards for consumables in the print media industry.

HEI Eco at drupa 2012
Certain to distinguish Heidelberg at drupa 2012 will be its remarkable array of solutions for ecologically responsible printing. Heidelberg will mount its entire drupa presentation on a carbon-neutral and sustainable basis by offsetting the CO2 emissions for all processes and materials that it utilizes during the show, including ink, paper, power for show equipment, setup logistics, and personnel travel to and from the event.

Almost every sheetfed press in Hall 1 will have an energy meter to measure power consumption per 1,000 sheets, making it easy to check energy efficiency at a glance on the Wallscreen of the Prinect Press Center control console. Many other Heidelberg innovations support eco-friendly printing, including the new, energy-saving DryStar LE (Low Energy) UV dryer and the air-recirculating heat recovery system for DryStar Combination dryers.

By the time drupa 2012 opens, Heidelberg will already have begun supplying an industry first in green production: Speedmaster SX 52 Anicolor presses with carbon neutrality as a standard feature. This means that the carbon footprint of manufacturing the presses has been calculated to account for every step from raw material extraction through to the delivery of the finished press to the print shop. Heidelberg then offsets the carbon through its participation in a reforestation project. All of Heidelberg’s other press models also are available with carbon offsetting on request.
