Digimura Collaborates with INSA on One-night Installation

Press release from the issuing company

Renowned UK artist INSA has chosen to use digitally-printed Digimura fabric-backed wall covering from Papergraphics to stage his one-night installation, Self Reflection is greater than Self Projection.

Heavily influenced by graffiti, pop culture and fetishism, INSA has been producing his unique artwork for more than ten years and has worked with blue-chip brands including Sony and Nike on private commissions and projects. This latest exhibition drew on familiar themes in his portfolio, particularly society's twin obsessions with money and image.

Papergraphics became involved with INSA when the artist ran a competition asking fans to swap something for one of 20 limited-edition INSA and Nike t-shirts. Among offers to have tattoos of INSA's work and a legal agreement to name a baby after the artist, Francesca Selby, marketing co-ordinator atPapergraphics, offered to donate the wallcovering that now forms an essential part of the installation.

"I first contacted INSA in 2010, offering the services of installing a Digimura wallcovering for him for one of his shows," says Selby. "He loved the idea but struggled to find the space to do so. It took him a long time to find the right project space for using the wallcoverings. He wanted to do something special and take full advantage of what Digimura could offer."

The exhibition, at the Londonewcastle gallery space in London's hip Shoreditch area, featured 160 square metres of wall covered in Digimura 2.1 Smooth, printed with INSA's work by BAF Graphics. The innovative fabric-backed wallcovering was ideal for the installation not only for its exceptional colour reproduction and line definition – essential for INSA's saturated, hyper-real images.

The entire installation process was carried out by BAF Graphics and documented from start to finish, and included covering 60 square metres of floor in Aslan DFP47 smooth-surface vinyl and laminated with Aslan MP326 anti-slip laminate from Papergraphics, as well as the Digimura wallcovering.

"Being an integral part of INSA's latest installation was really exciting for Digimura," says Selby. "It was a unique opportunity to showcase the potential of the wallcovering and demonstrate that it's not just for interior décor: the possibilities are endless if you think creatively."
