Muller Martini Expands Costa Rica Newspaper Group's Capacity

Press release from the issuing company

Publisher Grupo Nación, located in Costa Rica’s capital of San José, is expanding its mailroom capacity by adding two ProLiner newspaper inserting systems and eight FlexiRoll buffers from Muller Martini. The move cements its position as the leading newspaper publisher in Central America. The company has relied on Muller Martini finishing systems since 2003.

For eight years, three of the publisher’s dailies have been finished using Muller Martini systems: the flagship “La Nación” (with a print run of 118,000 copies on weekdays and 158,000 copies on Sundays), “Al Día” (80,000 copies) and “La Teja” (185,000 copies), as well as a number of weeklies and advertising materials with heatset covers. The company’s positive experiences with NewsGrip A conveyors, four high-performance NewsStack compensating stackers, an Exacto N rotary trimmer and the MPC control prompted it to turn once again to Muller Martini for the expansion of its mailroom capacity.

With two identical ProLiners (utilized for main section and preprinted section feeding with six inserting stations) and eight FlexiRoll buffers, Grupo Nación is ensuring that all newspapers are fully and correctly delivered. The ProLiners, the first newspaper inserting machines of this model in Central America, play to the company’s strengths in the finishing of tabloid newspapers. All three of the newspapers printed in San José use the tabloid format, each with a different width.

Costa Rica’s undisputed leader in print media selected Muller Martini because of its superior technical solution, as well as its swift and flexible project handling. The new systems were ordered in November and will begin production in April.
