Roland DG’s UV Proofing and Prototyping Wows Packaging Innovations

Press release from the issuing company

Roland DG was represented at the show by packaging sector specialist, Revolution Transfers, a Roland authorised dealer. The applications and processes demonstrated by the two companies left visitors in little doubt – Roland’s UV print and cut technology heralds a new era in producing packaging prototypes quickly and cheaply.

On the stand were the VersaUV LEC-540 run by colour-critical RIP specialist ColorGATE, the VersaSTUDIO BN-20, running 3M’s brand-new specialist media for performance labelling and the VersaCAMM VS-420 printer/cutter being run by CGS-ORIS Web Tuner software.

Said Steve Chappell, Business Manager - Packaging, Proofing & Industrial Labelling, Roland DG (UK): “Roland and Revolution were producing lots of samples of interesting and unique mock-ups to engage visitors and demonstrate how Roland products really can transform prototyping, proofing and label printing. The star of the show was the LEC-540 – it leads the market for wide format UV packaging proofing and is currently the most affordable cheapest and flexible way to produce working packaging prototypes on the very same stock as the final job on a commercial press. It is incredibly cost effective and can bring the price of proofs down from hundreds or even thousands of pounds to just one or two.”

“This is Roland’s third time at the show and our brand is really beginning to resonate with the market as the adoption of UV wide format inkjet for proofing begins to gather momentum. The show was very busy and we got many strong leads because people really are keen to look at new ways of doing things and reduce costs with more efficient working.”

As the world’s first UV inkjet printer/cutters, Roland’s award-winning VersaUV LEC series provides brand owners in the packaging and label markets with a new solution for packaging prototypes or proofs and short-run production. With the VersaUV LEC series, packaging professionals can print CMYK plus white and clear inks for varnishing and embossing effects on virtually any substrate, and then crease, contour kiss- or die-cut your designs, all on one device.   The results are colour-accurate prototypes or proofs that are virtually indistinguishable from the finished product.

The VersaCAMM VS series is the latest generation of Roland’s pioneering, award-winning printer/cutter series and is the fastest and most versatile yet. With print speeds up to 23.1m²/hr, integrated print and cut capabilities, superior media handling and unattended print features, the VS is geared up to make more money, faster. Available in 64" (1.62m), 54" (1.37m), 42" (1.07m) or 30” (0.76m) models, the affordable VersaCAMM VS wide format printer/cutters achieve stunning results across a world of applications including signs, banners, posters, vehicle graphics and wraps and packaging prototypes.

The VersaSTUDIO BN-20 is a complete production studio for on-demand printing of labels, promotional goods and garments. The desktop solution combines high quality, vivid and durable print with integrated precision cutting, and comes bundled with all the necessary software to bring new levels of versatility to promotional applications and heat transfer jobs.
