MINNEAPOLIS, MN, February 9, 2004 – Delphax Technologies Inc., a global provider of high-speed digital printing and publishing systems, and Integrated Book Technology, Inc. (IBT), one of North America's leading all-digital book manufacturers, have announced the installation of IBT’s first Delphax CR1300 digital web press at IBT’s Troy, New York production facility in late September. The press is capable of running from roll stock to delivery of untrimmed books at a continuous throughput speed of 300 feet, or 2,400 pages per minute, an industry-leading speed performance that produces eight 300-page 6 x 9 books a minute. "We carefully evaluated all of the web digital printing systems in the marketplace," said William Clockel, Chief Technology Officer of IBT. "The Delphax CR1300 provides exceptional efficiency with its outstanding speed and clear advantage in pricing per page. The bottom line is that the throughput of our CR1300 equals the output of all seven of our DocuTechs, and the labor-to-page ratio is dramatic. We have 18 operators running our Docutechs 24/7. To get an equivalent output with the CR1300, we need only four operators." Clockel pointed out that the CR1300 with its exclusive electron beam imaging (EBI) print engine technology is simple to operate, making it easy to train a crew capable of quickly achieving the target production level on the press. When the enhancements are in place they are expected to enable IBT to run a wider range of book printing jobs on the CR1300 and open opportunities to digitally print longer-run jobs that publishers now usually produce on conventional presses.
