Heidelberg Offers New DryStar Delivery Dryer for Speedmaster XL 75

Press release from the issuing company

At drupa 2012, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) will be showcasing the DryStar delivery dryer with its new round-nozzle technology, which is now also available for the Speedmaster XL 75. This technology is used in the DryStar Coating and DryStar Combination dryer systems, which also ensure uniform drying and thus efficient processing at top production speeds. The special feature of the new technology is that, instead of the slotted nozzles previously used, it has a large number of round nozzles distributed evenly, including behind and between the IR lamps. This makes it possible to apply up to 100 percent more hot air over the same distance. Even at high production speeds, sheets therefore benefit from very fast and uniform drying. The even air application of the patented round-nozzle system also stabilizes sheet travel. The hot air is fed into a large area in such a way as to create a cushion of air on both sides of the sheet in conjunction with the round nozzles on the sheet guide path. This cushion of air stops the sheet fluttering, even at high production speeds.
Visitors to drupa will be able to see the new DryStar delivery dryer on the Speedmaster XL 75, which can be found in the Commercial Print area in Hall 1 as a response to the HEI Emotions market trend.

The DryStar Coating and DryStar Combination dryers will be available from fall this year, with the DryStar Combination UV following at the end of the year. Using these patented round nozzles to apply hot air has already proved effective in the DryStar drying systems for the Speedmaster XL 105, Speedmaster CD 102, and Speedmaster CX 102. This technology has also been available on the Speedmaster SM 52 with short coating delivery since IPEX 2010.

DryStar dryers combine optimum quality with maximum productivity

One very important objective for coating applications in particular is to produce print products with high gloss levels. Excellent quality must not come at the expense of high production speeds, though. DryStar delivery dryers from Heidelberg combine optimum quality with maximum productivity.
The DryStar Coating and DryStar Combination delivery dryers are particularly good at drying water-based coatings. The way hot air is applied to the sheet is key to the quality of this drying process. As a basic principle, the more hot air reaches the sheet, the faster and better it dries.

Heidelberg manufactures its own drying systems, which ensures a high level of reliability in production. Perfect coordination between sheet travel and dryer optimizes drying and quality, even with maximum production speeds, high ink coverage, or challenging coatings. The distance between the slide-in dryer modules and the print sheet is key to improving drying efficiency. Important settings can be saved with the job data and are instantly available for repeat jobs. This creates a good basis for greater transparency, higher quality, and improved cost-efficiency.

Heat recovery system of DryStar Combination dryer reduces energy consumption by around 20 percent

A new heat recovery system is also being unveiled at drupa in the DryStar Combination dryer. This system can be used in the extended delivery of the Speedmaster XL 75, Speedmaster XL 105, and Speedmaster CX 102. The heat recovery function is based on a very simple principle. Heat is drawn from the dryer's hot exhaust air and fed back into the fresh air supply. A cross-flow heat exchanger stops the moisture in the exhaust air from also being transferred. The heat recovery system can be seen in practice on a Speedmaster XL 105, which can be found in the packaging section in Hall 1 under the banner HEI Eco.

Heat recovery significantly reduces the energy consumption of DryStar Combination dryers. Based on full-load press operation, the saving amounts to around 20 percent.
CO2 emissions fall along with the energy costs - a further step on the way to creating a greener print shop. Heidelberg has long had a holistic approach to environmental protection. The company develops and manufactures products that minimize the consumption of natural resources while also reducing emissions and waste levels. There is an unmistakable trend in the print media industry toward sustainable green production that conserves resources. This has been one of the key corporate goals of numerous print shops and their customers for some time.

The press conference of Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG on the occasion of drupa 2012 will take place on May 2, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. in Düsseldorf in hall 1.
