PrintCity Alliance members & partners announce their detailed plans for drupa 2012, offering visitors access to their Connection of Competenceknowledge sharing and industry leading hot topics in Hall 6, May 3-16.
Our PrintCity drupa theme is: PRINT: SEEN! LEAN & GREEN. A shared networking environment will be created under this headline by Alliance members & partners with ‘hot topic’ visitor attractions located in the centre of Hall 6.
SEEN! focuses on all areas of ‘Value Added’ opportunities, through advanced materials and techniques, plus their benefits in product branding, visibility, differentiation and increased business.
LEAN & GREEN focuses on the inter-relationship between lean manufacturing concepts and the latest thinking on environment good practice. Both used together increase profitability and ensure printers, publishers and packaging professionals stay ahead of the competition
Industry leading businesses with specialist knowledge across conventional and digital web & sheetfed printing, packaging and publishing will be active at drupa:

The involved PrintCity members & partners: M-real, manroland, Eltosch, Finest Fog, Weilburger, Merck, Kurz, UPM and Westland are creating an eye catching ‘Value Box’, each wall featuring one of the main topics in Value Added Packaging. These include Enhancement (Touch & Feel), Function (Smart Packaging), Sustainability, Production and Workflow. These topics will attract printers, packagers, brand owners & designers. In addition to samples, visitors will get information about the How and the Why for special value added effects and learn about their benefits.
Tune-Up Your Web Press – Features & Benefits
PrintCity members and partners contributing to this area are: Baumüller, Tolerans, Procemex, Sonoco Alcore, manroland, Cofely and UPM. FAQs about the benefits of tuning up your web press will be answered in a creative way via an interactive display. Visitors can then talk to the experts from the companies within that shared area. All companies present can answer questions about reducing Total Life Cycle Costs, increasing Quality / Productivity, adding New Capabilities and sharing web offset printing knowledge.
Digital & Offset Printing – Features & Benefits
Here visitors will discuss the best of both worlds – how both digital and offset technologies can contribute to their future business strategy. Visitors will learn about Business Models for Future Production, plus Applications, Workflow & Materials, from participating members and partners:Océ, manroland, UPM, Metrics and MEGTEC.
Lean & Green Opportunities – Features & Benefits
This area will have content from, and be manned by, international experts from PEFC, Fujifilm, Vision in Print, Media Mundo and ClimateCalc to answer questions around topics to make the printing process Leaner & Greener. Visitors can benefit from their shared knowledge and will learn about Best Practice Methods, CO2 Calculation Techniques, Latest Enabling Technologies and how Certification is a benefit for their business.
Additionally, throughout the central shared networking areas, the latest PrintCity Alliance project reports will be presented and explained, plus industry FAQs answered.
Speakers for the International Environmental Conference on Thursday, May 10, 2012, from 09:00-15:00 in the drupa Congress Centre will include: Michael Keene, John Roberts Company (keynote presentation), Andreas Brandt, BVDM, Benoit Moreau, Imprim Vert / UNIC / ClimateCalc, Jean-Paul Wheater, Vision in Print, Jackson Leung, C&C Printing Hong Kong,Rainer Litty, WWF, Martyn Eustace, Two Sides/Print Power and John Sanderson, UPM/PrintCity. Process Colour Standardisation – guideline to better understand and use standardised process printing and workflow optimisation. PrintCity project members have shared their combined competencies to help implement standardisation, plus improve quality, consistency and productivity in offset printing.
Carbon Footprint & Energy Reduction - facilitate the improved collaborative environmental performance of printers, converters, publishers, brand owners and their suppliers. It is the broadest print & packaging multi-company and multi-partner project in this increasingly important and complex subject area.
Ultra Wide Web Offset - culmination of alliance member’s work to assess high productivity web offset presses of over 2 metres in web width. It takes into account all aspects of applications & key investment decision criteria for successful operation and the reduction of total production costs.
Value Added Packaging - VAPack – Project participants have shared knowledge on value added packaging techniques and created a portfolio of ‘sample boxes’ to show what is now possible. It focuses on the needs of brand owners & designers, to open discussions on the latest opportunities & benefits in using value added packaging techniques.
