Rotaform Document Services Orders Third Océ ColorStream 3500 in a Year

Press release from the issuing company

Océ, an international leader in digital document management and delivery, today announced that Rotaform Document Services, one of the major players in the Dutch information and communications industry and long-term customer of Océ, has ordered their third digital inkjet-based Océ ColorStream® 3500 within one year.

Reducing costs through innovative services

Rotaform Document Services (RDS) aims at organizations that exchange administrative and commercial information on a large scale, both digitally and on paper. The RDS mission is to help customers to reduce document exchange costs significantly through the use of innovative services. Rotaform Document Services is the trade name of Koninklijke Kampert en Helm Rotaform B.V., founded in 1872 and located in Lelystad.

It was only in February this year that Rotaform decided to invest in Océ’s new inkjet technology and ordered their first two Océ ColorStream 3500s, thus being the first company in the Netherlands to print on an Océ ColorStream 3500.

“Rotaform placed their first order for an Océ ColorStream 3500 in February 2011. We are proud to have helped this innovative Dutch print provider to address new clients and markets with the versatile Océ ColorStream 3500 and its full-color capacities,” notes Sebastian Landesberger, Executive Vice President, Océ Production Printing Systems.

New customers bring higher print volumes

Both of the inkjet-based, high-performance printing systems were delivered in early spring as single unit simplex printers and soon were in full production. “Our experience is definitely that this investment created new customer relationships, which themselves brought further print volumes, especially for TransPromo applications. We also shifted some of the offset-produced volume towards the inkjet-based Océ systems,” says RDS Managing Director Allard van Oostveen.

As the production capacity limit was soon reached and the demand for duplex printing was growing, a third Océ ColorStream 3500 was purchased in June. In the meantime this unit has been set up as a duplex engine in line with one of the printers already installed. The new printing line produces high-speed duplex full-color applications without using preprinted forms. Mr. van Oostveen comments: “A main benefit for us is that we can now process color prints in one run on plain paper rolls. By eliminating preprinted rolls we’re saving huge costs for our clients when producing transactional statements and direct mail.”

Thorough investigation of supplier market led to Océ

Peter van de Pol, Director of Production at Rotaform, adds: “We didn’t decide in favor of Océ’s new inkjet technology in a rush – we first undertook a thorough examination of the supplier market and carried out a lot of tests. Océ was subsequently found to be the company offering the best solution for us. Our very long experience with Océ equipment and its related service was also an important factor in our decision. The fact that we had to yet again increase our inkjet printing capacity was not expected by us. But it says a lot about the future of this technology! We are glad to have taken this path at an early stage.”

Frank Huigen, Business Group Manager Graphic Arts at Océ NL, is pleased with the development of full-color production at Rotaform. “Rotaform has a very clear view of changes in the fields of forms and document printing. These two worlds are going to melt into one and Rotaform is anticipating this, investing and establishing itself as the biggest inkjet production site in the Netherlands.”

Inkjet-based Océ ColorStream 3500 for both transaction and TransPromo

The Océ ColorStream 3500 inkjet printing system was unveiled at Canon Expo in Tokyo in November 2010. The high-speed, high-quality full color inkjet printer runs at 1,010 A4-size impressions per minute and simplifies the transition from monochrome to full-color or even five or six colors. It offers productivity and flexibility for high-speed color and monochrome production of transaction, TransPromo, direct mail, book and manual applications. Industry-leading reliability, print quality and media range are testament to Océ DigiDot® multilevel dot modulation technology.

A combination of unique features

Enhanced usability and productivity is made possible by a combination of unique features: HeadSafe technology helps prevent nozzle clogging and minimizes lengthy purging processes. The ability to transition between monochrome-only and full-color printing promotes higher uptime and productivity levels. Using passive RFID technology, the Océ InkSafe feature monitors both the proper placement of the ink containers in the press and the ink’s shelf life. The Océ ColorStream 3500 inkjet printing system provides consistent high-quality printing during the ramp-up acceleration, full-production speed, and the ramp-down deceleration phases. Utilizing the entire production time decreases turn-around time and minimizes waste.

The Océ ColorStream 3500 inkjet printing system provides a modular offering in various single and twin configurations. A full-color Océ ColorStream 3500 system can be set up as a monochrome-only system when needed. The production and media flexibility contributes to a future-proof solution that simplifies the transition of applications and business models to more sophisticated documents with variable personalization and smarter communication in color.
