Barclay Invests in Sheetfed Offset and Digital Printing

Barclay's Print is to install a Speedmaster XL 75-5+L from Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (Heidelberg) in February, less than six months after adding a Heidelberg-supplied Ricoh Pro C 901 Graphic Arts Edition digital press. 

"We have had a very strong year and have some interesting prospects which made this press purchase the right course for us," says David Amos, managing director. "We have long-term clients who demand great quality and great service, and this investment will enable us to increase our productivity, improve colour management and help us to build on existing strong relationships, as well as develop new clients." 

The company started out in 1952 with two brand new Heidelberg Platens and 25 years later bought a new GTO. Not all of its press purchases since have been brand new, but this time, among others, a better residual value was key to the decision to buy the very latest technology available. 

The new press will run alongside a Speedmaster CD 74-5, 2-colour and single colour Heidelberg presses and the Ricoh Pro C 901.

The company also appreciates the usability of the Speedmaster XL 75's Press Center and is also impressed by the very much quick make-readies demonstrated on the XL 75, with three to four minute switches from stock to stock. 

Barclay is also upgrading its CIP 3 workflow to the latest Prinect Pressroom Manager standard and it will run the press with the Prinect Axis Control spectrophotometer ensuring consistent colour balance. With both litho and digital options, both using state of the art technology, the company can offer a comprehensive range of products at excellent prices. David Amos is certain, that variable data work via the digital press and the quality and run lengths of litho means that the two technologies are definitely complementary not conflicting. He also expects that the customers will benefit from an even better quality result, colour consistency and improved turnround times for critical mailing projects.
