Xerox To Get Personal with 1:1 Marketing At AGC Graphic Communications Day

October 27, 2003 -- Xerox Corporation will participate in multiple capacities at Graphic Communications Day, the expo-seminar event to be presented by the Association of Graphic Communications (AGC) on November 6 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. A major sponsor of the event, Xerox will be exhibiting its DocuColor 6060 Digital Color Press, the fastest in its DocuColor 2000 series of entry-level production digital presses, in “Design Island,” a section of the exhibition hall reserved for equipment displays by manufacturers sponsoring AGC's first Annual Graphic Arts Design Competition. The design of the winning team of high school students participating in the competition will be donated to Literacy Partners, a not-for-profit organization promoting education, literacy and support for schools. Open to all attendees, the displays in Design Island will provide educational demonstrations of the various design, prepress workflow and print production elements involved in the process of graphic arts design and production. Xerox senior management will also be much in evidence at Graphic Communications Day. Tom Wetjen, vice president, Graphic Arts, will be a judge in the design competition, while Frank Steenburgh, corporate officer and senior vice president, will be one of eight distinguished industry experts speaking at the event. Xerox customers will also participate, with Roger Gimbel, president of Global Document Solutions in Manhattan, and Chad Logan, vice president of TBC Color Imaging in Teterboro, NJ, serving on a panel on the future of digital print to be led by Frank Romano of the Rochester Institute of Technology. The two Xerox customers are satisfied users of Xerox's DocuColor iGen3 digital color press, which was exhibited at last year's Graphic Communications Day and will be on view this year at Xerox's Knowledge Sharing Center at 245 Park Avenue in midtown Manhattan, along with a full array of Xerox digital monochrome and color equipment. (Transportation to the Knowledge Sharing Center will be provided on November 6.) Xerox currently supports over 7,500 worldwide users of its DocuColor 2000 series digital presses, including the 5252, 2060 and 6060 presses. Xerox says that a significant number of NY-metro area graphic arts service providers have created new profit centers for themselves and high-value applications for their customers using the DocuColor 6060. These firms include Newark Trade, Orange, NJ; FLM Graphics, New York, NY; Hardy Press, New Haven, CT; and Success Printing, Norwalk, CT, among others. “Ideal Venue” for Digial Color Solutions “Graphic Communications Day is an ideal venue in which to present the DocuColor 6060 to our target audience of providers of professional services, such as ad agencies and digital prepress and printing companies,” says David Tashji, general manager, new business development, for the Xerox Production Systems Group. “In contrast to the iGen3, which is designed for monthly volumes of 300,000 to 500,000 digital pages per month, the DocuColor 6060 is designed for monthly volumes of 80,000 to 200,000 digital pages per month. It's ideal for users starting out with a lower monthly page volume requirement, who also require very high quality short-run digital color printing functionality or the ability to produce high-value custom applications.” The Xerox Supplies Group will display a full breadth of specialty media offerings for digital print applications, including coated and uncoated cut sheet papers for printing on the DocuColor 6060. On Xerox will run several high-value custom publishing applications on the 6060, including a take-away poster as an example of the 6060's high image quality; a personalized golf newsletter as an example of a variable, one-to-one printing application; and a “call for entries” booklet for AGC's annual Graphic Arts Awards competition, which is presented at Xerox's Knowledge Sharing Center on Park Avenue. The booklet will be produced with the help of Xerox's Colorworks 2000 inline finishing module, which can cover feed, rotate, bleed trim, score, staple, fold, face trim, and stack a finished 4/4 digital color page block into a finished booklet, newsletter or book. “DocuColor 6060 with the ColorWorks Finishing Option is unique in the marketplace with its ability to produce high-value and customized applications that are completely finished and ready for immediate distribution," says Tashji.
