InfoTrends Offers Insights for In-House Printing Establishments

InfoTrends recently released a report which highlights survey results specifically focusing on in-plant printing operations. This information has been excerpted from InfoTrends' May 2011 multi-client study entitled Production Print Services in North America: An Evolution in Progress. With input from 687 respondents of print-for-pay and in-plant establishments, In-House Production Print Services in North America focuses on 228 in-plant survey respondents in the North American production printing marketplace.

Expanding services, multi-channel delivery, and mobile workers are redefining what it means to be a print service provider. It is particularly important to understand the evolution of these markets and is especially true for in-plant printers as they are often scrutinized by the organizations which they serve. In-plants generally lag behind their print-for-pay counterparts in terms of breadth of services they offer as well as their adoption of new technologies. Due to this reality, in-plants need to focus their growth initiatives on new services not only beyond what they currently offer, but on services that are attainable within their financial and operational means.

The in-plant survey respondents revealed the diverse nature among the production printing market in North America.

Through a combination of email surveys, phone interviews, and desk research, this report provides insight and recommendations to help you:

Understand the differences between in-plant printing and print-for-pay operations

In-plants are seeing a shift from black & white to color, as well as a shift from offset to digital

Data management and e-commerce services rate high in terms of services offered or planning to be offered

In relation to InfoTrends' 2004 and 2009 in-plant surveys, in-plant respondents are more likely to be using variable data design/composition, mailing preparation, and Web-to-print software
