Edwards Brothers announced that it has received chain-of-custody certification from the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) for both its Ann Arbor and Lillington, North Carolina, offset manufacturing facilities.  Edwards Brothers now carries certifications from PEFC, the Forest Stewardship Council®, and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® programs.
 
The world’s largest forest certification system, PEFC is an international nonprofit, nongovernmental organization dedicated to promoting sustainable forest management through independent third-party certification. It works throughout the forest supply chain to promote good practice in the forest and to ensure that timber and non-timber forest products are sourced with respect for the highest ecological, social, and ethical standards.
 
“Almost all of the house paper stocks we offer are certified by one or more of these programs, giving publishers a broad array of economical choices to consider when manufacturing their titles,” said John Edwards, President and CEO.  “It also ensures that the materials for the books we manufacture have been properly vetted and handled throughout the procurement and production process from an environmental standpoint.”
 
To become PEFC certified, a company must have a tracking system in place that identifies and tracks the amount of certified and uncertified content in the forest products it buys, uses, or sells. The certification process requires an initial third-party audit as well as annual audits to maintain the certification.
