Twixl media today launches Twixl Publisher version 2.0, a digital publishing solution that allows users to produce iPad applications fully independently from design in Adobe InDesign to publishing in the iTunes App Store.

Twixl Publisher is based on a philosophy of ease of use, simplicity and intuition.

Twixl Publisher is a publishing solution that takes projects from InDesign to iPad. Specifically, it is a combination of a stand-alone (Mac OS X) application and a plug-in for Adobe InDesign that allows designers to create interactive reader applications for the iPad.

With Twixl Publisher the company targets especially individual designers and design agencies.

Agencies are in need for an all-in-one solution to publish on the iPad. What’s unique about Twixl Publisher is that users maintain full control over where the content is stored and can create different types of application builds completely independently, without having to rely on a third party.

In addition to a number of new features and impressive speed improvements, version 2.0 also introduces a new licensing scheme:

Twixl Publisher Explore: this entry-level version is available as a free download, and allows a user to create iPad app previews and create “Ad Hoc” builds that can be distributed in house. There is a “pay-as-you-go” option for App Store builds at 250 Eur or 350 USD per build.

Twixl Publisher Premium: a single user version that lets you independently create an unlimited number of Ad Hoc or App Store builds. It is ideal for individual designers and smaller shops that regularly want to create branded App Store apps.

Twixl Publisher Advanced: a 5-user workgroup version that lets you independently create an unlimited number of Ad Hoc, App Store and Enterprise builds, and use Google Analytics. It is ideal for workgroups and for companies wanting to distribute in house content via Apple’s iOS Developer Enterprise program.

Twixl Publisher Professional: offers all features of the Advanced version, and in addition allows you to create kiosk apps with support for in-app purchase and subscriptions. It is targeted towards magazine publishers.

With Apple announcing sales of more than 11 million iPads in the last quarter the demand for iPad applications continues to boom. Today a new market is emerging for agencies: annual reports, productsheets, brochures, manuals, … Brands want them on the iPad.
