Tyler Installs ProImage NewsWay digital workflow solution

Press release from the issuing company

North Canton, Ohio - 17th October 2003:   The T.B. Butler Publishing Company, Inc., (The Tyler Paper) Tyler, Texas, publisher of the Tyler Morning Telegraph (43,954) and the Sunday Tyler Courier-Times-Telegraph (50,188) has installed a ProImage NewsWay digital workflow solution.   The system, installed and supported by ProImage partner Graphic Enterprises, Inc. (GEI), has been the final step in enabling the publisher to enjoy the benefits of 100% digital pagination, automated workflow, and CTP technology. The system allows the publisher to efficiently produce the typical 17 press runs it has each week, plus the approximately 40 specially inserted sections the paper runs each year. Last year The Tyler Paper decided it needed an all-embracing production workflow solution that would bring together its various pre-press systems; managing data from it’s Brainwork’s advertising system, Managing Editor’s ALS ad planning system, and its Advanced Publishing Technologies (APT) editorial, library and ad tracking software. The publisher invited GEI to propose a technical solution based upon its many years of newspaper systems integration and software expertise. GEI first had to fully understanding The Tyler Paper’s needs, and then design a system that would at least meet those needs, reducing costs by automating the many processes involved in the end-to-end production process. The solution included a number of software interfaces as well as GEI’s NC Translator solution that was placed in the production workflow both before and after NewsWay.  NC Translator performs a variety of important functions that include automatically renaming, duplicating, moving and distributing files around a production network. It removes manual intervention and therefore the potential for human error. “The whole system is incredibly simple to use. GEI provided all the interfaces. It took my designers less than a day to learn to effectively navigate through the editions, and proof their work. It probably took our more technical personnel no more than two weeks to become comfortable with editing configurations and working with purge and template settings,” says Graphic Services Manager, Bill Campbell. “It has also enabled us to automate our page pairing and digital printing process, making it a far more efficient and reliable procedure.” The workflow: The Tyler Paper’s workflow system automatically sends an EPS of each released ad to a directory on its local area network, labelled with a unique ID provided by Brainworks' ad entry software. The ads are automatically placed in a Quark Xpress page, and pages are output through a Harlequin RIP. NewsWay pairs the plates and upon approval, releases them to a spooling computer on Western Lithotech's Diamond Setter 610-SP 100 system.
