A-Pressen Group invests in Russian newspaper market with Goss

Press release from the issuing company

October 17th, 2003 – Norwegian media group A-Pressen has taken delivery of a new shaftless Goss Community press at OGF Novosibirsk in the capital of Siberia. The newly expanded press is installed in a brand new facility and will print the local daily newspaper as well as weekly and monthly newspapers. This will be the second major press expansion that Goss has undertaken for the group in Russia to invest in the region, and further enhances its reach into Eastern and Central Europe. The earlier recent A-Pressen Goss project in Russia was in Nizhniy Novgorod, south-east of Moscow, involving a Goss four-high Community tower extension. This press installation is now in full production printing around 50-60 titles per week with a combined total of 2.8 million copies. Sven-Kaare Johansen, Technical Director at A-Pressen Eastern Europe comments, “We have had much success with the Goss Community press system and have over fifteen Community presses running 24/7 in various locations throughout Norway. Providing the flexibility and reliability that we require for printing a wide range of newspaper and commercial products, the Goss Community press is the perfect choice for this location.” Lying on the trans-Siberian railway and with 1.4 million inhabitants, the new 14-unit Goss Community press at OGF Novosibirsk will be configured as three four-high towers and one two-high tower, plus two folders and six reelstands. The order is set to be complete by winter 2003. Peter Selby, Goss General Sales Manager comments, “Goss has worked closely with A-Pressen not only in Norway, but in helping support A-Pressen’s ambitions in Russia. With its comprehensive product portfolio Goss can offer a range of alternative newspaper press solutions. The Community press is modular and can be tailored to exactly meet customer requirements. This enables A-Pressen to get the right balance between budget, technology and operational requirements. The Goss Community press is well known in Russia, its low cost, high print quality and excellent reputation make it the logical answer to A-Pressen’s requirements at Novosibirsk.” The Goss Community press was sourced from Goss’ ISO 9001: 2000 quality accredited Shanghai facility in China and as such was able to be shipped to the plant along the trans-Siberian railway. “Because of the location of the Shanghai facility Goss has been able to deliver the press to us in Novosibirsk without any problems,” says Johansen. “We are excited about the opportunities that this installation will bring us in terms of both production capability and the flexibility that the press offers. Goss are constantly making improvements to the Community press and its new features and capabilities ensure that we, as a Group, always have the latest technology advantages.” The Goss Community press is one of the most popular presses of its class in the region. With over 55 Community installations in Central and Eastern Europe, the modular, single-width, one plate-around press system is the market leader. With printing speeds at up to 35,000 cph, it can be supplied with either a conventional or shaftless drive, remote ink duct control and a new touch screen control console plus a new, modern completely restyled four-high tower appearance. All of these features contribute to maximum flexibility, print quality, ease of maintenance and product capability.
