Press release from the issuing company

Océ, an international leader in digital document management and delivery, today announced that it will highlight its digital newspaper solutions at IFRA Expo, Vienna, Austria, from 10 to 12 October 2011. In the strategic alliance with manroland, Océ’s focus in the digital newspaper market is widening to distributed printing in domestic markets and hybrid workflows.

Digital and offset newspaper production is complementary

In December 2010, Océ and manroland AG, one of the world’s leading suppliers of offset printing systems, have announced their strategic alliance. With this alliance, Océ’s focus in the digital newspaper market is now widening from decentralized production of international newspapers to short-run national markets and micro-zoning workflows, combining offset and digital production. Océ’s latest inkjet solutions for the newspaper market will be on display at IFRA Expo in hall B, booth number B 108.

“The strategic alliance with manroland offers us a new distribution channel in the graphic arts industry. Thanks to the excellent position of manroland in the global newspaper market, this market segment will even more become a core business for Océ’s Production Printing Division in regard to high-speed inkjet printing ,” says Sebastian Landesberger, Executive Vice President, Océ Production Printing.

Extended inkjet portfolio

In 2011, Océ has extended its inkjet portfolio to even better meet the production requirements in national and international newspaper markets with three new products:

  • The Océ ColorStream® 3500 twin series provides a paper and print width of 21"25 or 540 mm and a printing speed of 75 m/min. This results in an output of 1,070 36-page tabloid newspapers per hour.

  • The Océ JetStream® 1400 is a compact single tower press with a printing speed of 100 m/min providing a capacity of 1,425 36-page tabloids per hour.

  • The high-performance full-color press Océ JetStream 3000 delivers at a compelling speed of 200 m/min 2,140 36-page tabloids per hour.

At IFRA Expo, print samples will be available from both Océ ColorStream and JetStream series.

New print sites

At IFRA Expo, Océ is announcing two new newspaper print sites:

  • Swiss Post will start production of personalized newspapers on November 1st on an Océ JetStream 1000.

  • Interval, a Paris based French print service provider, will introduce the Océ JetStream 1400 for national and international newspaper production in December 2011.

Efficiently handling digital newspaper printing

IFRA Expo is the leading event of the newspaper and media industry. Reed Messe Vienna will be the venue for the 41st World Publishing Expo, running from 10 – 12 October. Océ will be exhibiting at booth B 108 in hall B. At IFRA Expo 2011, Océ will present how efficiently the new Océ JetStream and ColorStream series handle multiple runs of thousands of digital newspapers in one shift. As a service to IFRA Expo visitors, daily newspapers in tabloid format will be available every day produced on a Canon imagePRESS.
