C.P. Bourg Launches First Dual-Mode Sheet Feeder for Hybrid Digital

Press release from the issuing company

  • New Bourg BSFx Sheet Feeder permits in-line or off-line operation, allowing shops with multiple production digital printers to achieve dramatic productivity gains while maintaining integrity of collated output.
  • Certified for use with Xerox Nuvera Production Systems, the innovative sheet feeder will be featured at Graph Expo 2011 in Xerox Booth #400.

McCormick Place, Chicago; At this year's Graph Expo tradeshow, C.P. Bourg debuts the Bourg BSFx, a new dual-mode sheet feeder that for the first time enables a finishing production line dedicated to a single digital print engine also to handle printed output from any number of different presses. Graph Expo 2011 takes place in Chicago at McCormick Place, September 11-14, 2011. The new Bourg BSFx Sheet Feeder will demonstrate high-efficiency finishing connected to a new Bourg JDF-enabled BDFEx Document Finisher in Xerox Booth #400.

Certified initially by Xerox to operate in-line with Xerox Nuvera 100, 120, 144, 200 and 288 Production Systems, the new dual-mode Bourg BSFx Sheet Feeder is equipped with an onboard bypass paper path that transfers printed covers and page content directly from the Xerox Nuvera print engine to various C.P. Bourg and other manufacturers' finishing modules.

In-Line or Off-Line Operation
In the in-line mode, the new BSFx Sheet Feeder functions passively as part of a dedicated booklet production finishing line connected to a single Xerox Nuvera Production System, allowing sheets to pass through to the finishing production line.

Like all Bourg BSF models, the BSFx can be loaded "virtually hands free" utilizing an innovative air-table design that allows its operator to load and easily center stacks of collated print output from stack carts common to Xerox and other manufacturerâ€s printers.

When operated in this off-line mode, the BSFx feeds covers and content pages to finishing modules that otherwise would be dedicated to one print engine.

"Digital print shops today typically have multiple monochrome and color print engines, often with dedicated finishing equipment and a stacker. Meanwhile, even the fastest cut-sheet digital print engines currently can't match the pace of a production finishing line," said Richard Trapilo, Executive Vice President and General Manager, C.P. Bourg, Inc.

"In this environment, users want greater flexibility and freedom to compensate for production bottlenecks and to take advantage of economies of scale. Using a single finishing system for in-line and off-line production can add to a shop's flexibility while significantly boosting productivity and efficiency -- all of which users can translate into a much higher return on their equipment investment," Mr. Trapilo explained.

The BSFx is a versatile, high-speed sheet feeder equipped with two feeding compartments that can accept pile heights of 20 inches for primary content and up to 6.3 inches for covers or other content, and feed up to 15,000 sheets per hour to various C.P. Bourg and other manufacturers' finishing modules.

The sheet feeder detects double or missed sheets fed from both compartments, and detects when either stack bin is empty. Paper sizes can range from 7 x 8-inch sheets to make finished products smaller than a CD-ROM booklet, up to a robust 14.33 x 22.5 inches. Optical mark recognition (OMR) comes standard, with optional barcode scanning available for added security and set integrity using a flexible-position scanner that allows the shop to place a barcode virtually anywhere on the sheet.

C.P. Bourg finishing modules able to operate with the dual-mode BSFx Sheet Feeder include the BCMx Bleed Crease Module, the new JDF-enabled BDFEx Document Finisher and the award-winning large-format BMEx Booklet Maker. C.P. Bourg's proven vacuum-belt technology is used throughout the paper transport system to accommodate a wide variety of paper types, weights and sizes without marking, scuffing or scratching.

The new BSFx Sheet Feeder is available directly from Xerox Corporation.
