New Goss Universal 75 press launched at IfraExpo

Press release from the issuing company

October 13th, 2003 – Following the dramatic success of the two-around version of the Goss Universal press, Goss announces a new and improved member of the series, the Universal 75, a premium output press system capable of straight running at 75,000 copies per hour. “The new Goss Universal 75 press is a powerful workhorse for a wide range of applications including newspaper, directory and semi-commercial products,” states David Stamp, Global Marketing Director for Goss International. “Its latest generation design combines maximum flexibility with very high output. These are essential features for today’s printers, especially those with contract print portfolios where flexibility is essential, both in the type of products printed and to maximize future potential.” The performance and flexibility of the Universal 75 stems from the proven technologies on which the press series is based, plus innovative new features. Modular four-high printing towers The compact modern printing units of the Goss Universal 75 two-around press system can be configured to suit almost any output requirement, including coldset or heatset printing. Configured as four-high towers, with one or two web leads per tower, the units provide easy access for fast plating and job changeovers. The Goss Universal 75 is available with shaftless or conventional shaft drives, Goss OPCS Controls and a choice of inking systems to maximize productivity and print quality. Goss DigiRail™ Inking System The Goss DigiRail digital inking system is offered as an option to open fountain inking on the Universal 75 press. It complements the press’ performance by improving print quality and consistency, maximizing waste reduction and minimizing maintenance. Evolved from Goss’ proven digital page pack – in use worldwide – the Goss DigiRail inker delivers accurately metered ink onto the ink train to provide high print quality with very fine density control adjustments – as low as 0.1 of an increment in highlight or small image areas. High output jaw folder system Designed for high quality printing at maximum speed, hour after hour, day after day, the Universal 75 uses a proven 2:3:3 jaw folder with a matching high performance. Capable of folding products with up to 96 broadsheet pages or 160 tabloid pages in collect mode, this folder is designed for heavy duty production. The Universal 75 folder can be provided with four-section straight run folding capability or eight-section collect, providing maximum production flexibility. 37,500 cph tabloid collect The collect mode, provided by the two-plate-around configuration of the new Universal 75 is a key feature for higher pagination tabloid production. Even at high page counts, a Universal 75 can run at up to 37,500 copies per hour, giving over 7% net additional throughput from the previous highest in the Universal range. This is a significant advantage for contract tabloid printing – prevalent in Europe and some other global markets – where pagination and color demands are high, but print windows are short. Two-wide or three-wide production Three-wide production solutions, up to 1000mm/39.36” web width, are offered on both the new Goss Universal 75 two-around press and on the Goss Universal 45/50 one-around version. Of particular interest in America and other markets with appropriate page sizes, three wide (3 x 2 or 3 x 1) solutions from the Universal family offer new production opportunities from an established press series. With its performance and feature set, Goss expects the Universal 75 to become the most popular press in its class. “Despite stiff opposition, our original 2 x 2 Universal single-width press has been stunningly successful with over 1000 printing units sold since launch in 1997,” confirms Eric Normand, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Goss Nantes. “We expect the increased speed, new 3 x 2 capability and highly efficient digital inking option to set the pace for this type of press. More importantly, its high performance will help create new opportunities and high value for our customers.” ‘Goss’ and ‘Universal’ are registered trademarks and ‘Goss International’ and ‘Goss DigiRail’ are trademarks of Goss International Corporation.
