Heidelberg begins NexPress 2100 manufacturing at N.Y. digital headquarters

Press release from the issuing company

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Oct. 10, 2003 — Heidelberg has begun producing the NexPress 2100 digital production color press at its Digital headquarters in Rochester, N.Y., with the first machines manufactured here available to customers later this month. The migration of NexPress 2100 press production and assembly to the Rochester facility is part of Heidelberg’s initiatives to maximize plant utilization and significantly improve the cost structure in the Digital business. • Heidelberg will be producing all digital presses in one location. NexPress 2100 press assembly will also continue at the Kiel, Germany plant until the end of the year. • These activities will help Heidelberg improve productivity of the Digital business, as a result of consolidating digital manufacturing into one location. • The consolidation enables the company to leverage the existing expertise of its research and development staff headquartered in Rochester and the labor force’s more than 20 years of experience producing digital equipment. “NexPress 2100 press customers will benefit from our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and processes, which are second to none in the industry and have been employed to produce the award-winning Digimaster product family since 1999,” said Michael Schirmer, vice president, operations, Heidelberg’s Digital Print Solution Center. “We have ramped up NexPress 2100 press production in a very short time and are ready to meet customers' demands."
