Kinko's, IP and xpedx Donate Paper Reams to Red Cross Hurricane Relief

Press release from the issuing company

RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 8 -- Kinko's, International Paper and xpedx today presented the American Red Cross with 8,000 reams of paper to aid in disaster relief efforts following Hurricane Isabel. The contribution -- valued at more than $30,000 -- will supply American Red Cross chapters with the paper they need for the everyday business of helping residents along the hurricane-ravaged Mid-Atlantic coast. The paper donation came about through the collaboration of xpedx, International Paper and Kinko's, with International Paper donating 400 cartons of paper, Kinko's donating another 400 cartons, and xpedx facilitating the donation and providing the delivery of the paper to the American Red Cross. If laid end- to-end, the four million sheets would create a paper path more than 725 miles long. "The need for basic supplies runs deep in the aftermath of a natural disaster. These needs range far beyond food, clothing and shelter for displaced residents. Many are hidden and long-lasting," said Cheryl Parks, director of the Red Cross disaster relief operation. "These valuable donations of goods and materials from Kinko's, xpedx and International Paper will support our internal operations and help ensure that more of the public's financial contributions go directly to help the victims of the disaster." "With more than 80 Kinko's branches in states that Isabel hit hardest, lending a helping hand is a natural fit for Kinko's. One of our core values is to help the communities in which we work and live," said Steve Grupe, vice president of global sourcing at Kinko's. "When a local team member alerted our CEO about the desperate need for paper to help the American Red Cross, we quickly teamed up with xpedx and International Paper to meet that need." Sally Metzler, xpedx Sales Manager for the Kinko's business, added, "Not only does this effort mirror our corporate values, but it also is a great opportunity to support our long-time customer and business partner -- Kinko's. We are proud to partner with Kinko's on this effort, and to make a difference in the communities where many of our operations, employees and customers are represented."
