University of Houston Dr. Jerry Waite Receives PGSF Educator of the Year Award

Press release from the issuing company

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, – Dr. Jerry Waite, professor of technology, College of Technology, University of Houston, Houston, Texas, has been named the ninth recipient of the Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation (PGSF) Educator of the Year Award. This award recognizes excellence in educational instruction for graphic communication and printing. The award will be presented at the Teachers Conference, Sunday, September 11 during GRAPH EXPO in Chicago.

"Dr. Waite is a passionate educator that inspires and challenges his students," said Ted Ringman, vice president of development at PGSF. "The award is unique in that only PGSF scholarship recipients are invited to nominate educators who have had a positive impact in their academic careers and lives. Dr. Waite inspires students through his breadth of technical knowledge and enthusiasm for the industry."

"In today's rapidly changing field of graphic communication, education is absolutely essential. Students need to learn to be ready to change and adapt. . . quickly. A solid understanding of technology is key to adaptation," according to Dr. Waite. "Without industry support, we in graphic communication education can easily become stuck in our comfortable ruts. To keep ourselves relevant, we will always need industry help with advice, materials, equipment, and employment opportunities for our students."

More than two hundred college students attending 72 schools are receiving financial assistance through PGSF. However, many scholarship applicants are turned down due to lack of funds. For information regarding tax advantages, contributions, establishing a scholarship through PGSF, or scholarship applications contact Bernie Eckert, PGSF program administrator at 412-259-1740, or [email protected].
