CDS Publications installs Muller Martini's Diamant MC 35 Bookline to efficiently tackle a variety of printing jobs, both now and in the future

CDS Publications, a Consolidated Graphics, Inc., company located in Medford, Oregon, is a leading print and fulfillment hub on the West Coast.  CDS manufactures marketing communications and educational materials for a number of industries, including technology, catalog, trade publishing, healthcare and finance.

Recently, it installed Muller Martini's Diamant MC 35 Bookline in order to help facilitate the manufacturing of a wide range of printed book products including textbooks and high-quality commercial work.  The Diamant MC 35 produces up to 2,100 books per hour, while delivering the high book quality expected from the Diamant brand.  Oblong format books can be produced as can books only two millimeters thick or large format books.

The in-line system with the Diamant Bookline guarantees a high level of efficiency, even in the case of small runs.  Book manufacturers can produce standard hardcover books, as well as books with integral, full-flap or even plastic covers – all at top quality.  The Diamant also features a quick, user-friendly touchscreen enabling the operator to carry out quicker changeovers.

"We have a strong commitment to staying ahead of the curve in quality, efficiency and innovation in order to meet our customers' evolving needs, and the Diamant MC 35 equipment was chosen because it met our quality and throughput requirements," said Steven A. Brown, President of CDS Publications.  "Of particular benefit, this technology effectively binds one-off books, with varying page counts, at high speeds previously only associated with traditional binding methods."

"At CDS, this new equipment has increased throughput and expanded bindery offerings for our digital, heatset and sheet fed presses.  We believe we are making the highest quality casebound books in the industry," added Brown.

Hard cover casebound books are frequently the choice of customers seeking an impressive product appearance and endurance to withstand heavy usage.  CDS Publications has a growing specialty in softcover and hardcover book production, both for static and personalized volumes.

Although other bindery equipment was considered, in the end the choice was Muller Martini.  "We've used Muller Martini equipment for decades," said Mr. Brown, "because it's been extremely reliable, functional and flexible.  Their service teams have been responsive to us when needed.  Most importantly, on this particular project, they were able to engineer equipment to meet all of our quality and product requirements, something the competition was unable to do."
