Komori Honors Freeport Press For Record-Setting Performance

Press release from the issuing company

Freeport, OH – Komori America Vice President Bob Buongiorno presented Freeport Press with its Worldwide Make?ready Achievement Award June 15, in recognition of the most plates changed and/or the most make-readies ever achieved in a 24-hour period on any Komori 16?page web press.

A leader in heat?set web offset printing for magazines, digests and tabloids, Freeport set the record on March 17, 2011, producing 155 individual full?color press runs and changing 1,240 printing plates on two single-web 16?page presses. "This was truly a great test of both machine and crew performance," noted James Pilcher, Freeport's vice president of manufacturing and general manager. "We're really excited to be able to run equipment that is so efficient and easy to operate, and at the same time minimize waste while producing publications that exceed industry standards for quality. It's a remarkable situation to be in, and we couldn't be more pleased."

Conveying his thanks to all those involved in the process - and particularly to the press crews - Pilcher added, "We learned a lot during this process, and we think that with some slight adjustments we can be even more efficient. We're already looking forward to breaking this record!"

The entire event was captured with time?lapse photography and converted to a video format that can be seen on the company's web site: www.freeportpress.com/video.html.
