Stibo Graphic Announces Investment Plans, To shut down sheetfed printing unit

January 23, 2004 -- Stibo Graphic, publishing division of Stibo A/S – Denmark’s largest corporation in the graphic trade – will be implementing a series of change and development measures. The initiatives are in line with the corporation’s strategy in support of growth and commercial focus instigated in 2002. The company will be investing hundred million plus Danish Kroner in its state-of-art web printing facility as well as a pioneering software development project. In parallel, Stibo Graphic is forming strategic alliances with two other Danish players in the industry – Color Print A/S (Phoenix A/S) and Datagraf Auning A/S. The latter two will be taking on some of the activities of Stibo Graphic’s Aarhus based sheetfed printing unit which will consequently close down. About 75 staff will be made redundant. However, it is expected that a number of Stibo Graphic’s staff will be offered reemployment with either Color Print A/S (Phoenix A/S) or Datagraf Auning A/S. Lastly, Stibo Graphic will be acquiring a share of ownership in Color Print A/S. With these initiatives Stibo Graphic will be strengthening its international competitiveness within its three primary target groups: large publishers of catalogues, directories, and magazines. Facts – printing: In 2004 Stibo Graphic will be investing hundred million plus Danish Kroner towards substantially expanding capacities of its web printing facility in Horsens and thereby consolidating the web plant’s position amongst the most advanced and efficient in Europe. Stibo Graphic’s other printing facility, the sheetfed printing unit in Aarhus, has up till now handled printing of covers and books. On its closure on 1 May 2004 Copenhagen Stock Exchange- listed Color Print A/S’ subsidiary Phoenix A/S will be taking over all assets. A number of Stibo Graphic staff will be offered re-employment with Phoenix A/S. In connection with the agreement, Stibo Graphic and Color Print A/S have formed a strategic alliance. Under the umbrella of co-operation Phoenix A/S will be handling Stibo Graphic’s requirements for sheetfed printing services. To this end, Phoenix is currently making investments in order to secure highly efficient and competitive production capabilities in support of Stibo Graphic. The strategic alliance also embraces co-operation on web printing. Jointly, Color Print A/S and Stibo Graphic are in a position to offer a complementary range of solutions that cover the entire spectre of demand. In parallel, Stibo will be acquiring a share of ownership in Color Print A/S. Facts – magazines: In tandem, Stibo Graphic has launched a comprehensive and advanced workflow solution in support of magazine production. The solution is marketed and sold internationally under the name Stibo ePublish, and represents a milestone in Stibo Graphic’s strategic development in that The Stibo Group also offers software solutions to publishers of catalogues, directories and newspapers. For the magazines market, Stibo Graphic is entering into a strategic alliance with Datagraf Auning A/S. This alliance enables the two companies to provide a unique market offering to customers in this segment. A number of Stibo Graphic staff from the sheet printing unit will be offered jobs with Datagraf Auning A/S.
