Public Printer Of United States To Attend PIA Franklin Event

CRANFORD, NEW JERSEY, August 29, 2008-There is still time to sponsor and/or purchase tickets for the Printing Industries Alliance's 2008 Franklin Event scheduled for Sept. 10th, 2008 (5:30-9:30 pm) at Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers. While individual tickets may be purchased until the day before this exciting event and/or at the door, firms wishing to sponsor should notify PIA by Sept. 3.

"Forty three companies have signed on as event sponsors already and a capacity crowd of more than 500 CEOs and other senior executives from the printing, advertising, publishing and graphics sectors is anticipated," noted Co-Chairs Diane Romano (HudsonYards) and Cheryl Kahanec (Sandy Alexander, Inc.).  "We've extended the closing time this year to 9:30 to allow even more than the usual networking opportunities which are always fantastic."

In addition to several prominent industry leaders being feted, Robert C. Tapella, the 25th Public Printer of the United States, will attend the Event and be presented with an "Industry Recognition Award" In honor of his prestigious post and exemplary public service to our country.

In his role, Tapella serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO), one of the nation's oldest and most venerable agencies. Headquartered in Washington,D.C., he oversees production and distribution of information products and services for all three branches of the federal government. Many of the country's most important documents, such as the Congressional Record, the Federal Register, and the nation's passports are produced at GPO's main plant located five blocks from the U.S. Capitol. This 1.5 million square foot complex is one of the largest information processing, printing and distribution facilities in the world.

Industry leaders receiving Power of Communications Awards include James Hammer (Hammer Packaging) for Printing: Ken Lantz (DRAFTFCB) for Advertising; and Tom Fox (American Express Publishing, Time, Inc.) for Publishing.  The John Peter Zenger Medal will be presented to Frederick Moss (Galvanic Printing & Plate Company/Flexi Printing Plate Company) for his many years of community service, working to better the lives of children in northern New Jersey.
