Glens Falls, NY - Finch proudly unveils its latest educational offering on the company's website: the new Environmental Logos section, which can be found at  http://finchpaper.com/our-environment/environmental-logos/. Designers and printers seeking to prominently display the environmental attributes of paper they use can easily download several industry logos to help communicate environmental responsibility to customers' audiences.
 
The logos, available in EPS and JPEG formats, clearly identify how - and when - each should be used, as well as provide a clear indication to Finch customers as to which Finch papers correspond with which logos.
 
"Finch invites customer ideas, which often turn into useful resources, such as this environmental logo page," says Beth Povie, director of branding and communications at Finch Paper. "Many customers want to know more about the paper they use today -- who made it, how it's made, where and how its raw materials are sourced --  to display this information on their products."
 
Povie says that these conversations led Finch to conclude that customers do not have sufficient knowledge about third-party certifications for sustainable forestry. A related discovery was over-reliance on environmental calculators, which only report general savings for using recycled fiber, and therefore cause customers to miss the bigger picture.
 
Every mill offers recycled content, and everyone agrees that recycled content is good. "However," Povie cautions,"your choice of paper may depend on more."
 
Finch works in healthy, naturally regenerative forests. Its forestry group actively promotes third-party certifications to landowners and customers alike.  And, like most integrated mills, Finch has been using renewable energy for decades.
 
Rather than design a new line-up of logos, Povie says that Finch decided it would provide customers with a more transparent, meaningful statement to show that paper choice makes a difference.
