Griebsch & Rochol Druck to purchase Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex

Press release from the issuing company

Venlo, The Netherlands - Océ, an international leader in digital document management and delivery, today announced that Griebsch & Rochol GmbH & Co. KG, as one of the first companies in the German graphics industry, have invested in an Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex. Using the four-color printing system, this provider of printing services will mainly produce loose-leaf supplements and paperbacks in small runs.

Leading mid-range companies increasingly rely on digital printing

Griebsch & Rochol Druck is one of the leading mid-sized businesses in the North Rhine-Westphalia print and media industry. With a full-stage sheet-fed offset and digital printing operation as well as professional setting pre-stages, the company designs and produces high-quality books, trade journals, loose-leaf publications, catalogs and industrial printed matter.
Color pages now produced digitally

"With the acquisition of the Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex we have, on the one hand, reacted to the current trend towards small runs in the publishing business," explains Dirk von Kiedrowsky, CEO of Griebsch & Rochol. "On the other, we're giving our customers considerably more flexibility in the design of their products. This specifically means that we can realize a substantially higher number of color elements with end-to-end digital production, for example in the production of supplements."

At Griebsch & Rochol, such color pages have previously been created by offset printing them and then combining the result with digitally printed black & white pages. This is a comparatively complex procedure that now lies in the past thanks to the new Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex printing system.
Digital printing more profitable for small runs

The company also wants to serve the market for book production to order with the Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex: "We're increasingly printing paperbacks at various run lengths for which offset printing just would not be profitable," says Von Kiedrowsky. "For a powerful digital printing system like the Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex, however, this is just good capacity utilization."

Griebsch & Rochol offer not only on-demand printing of publishing house products, but also the associated logistics. With just-in-time delivery to given addresses – for example directly to booksellers – Griebsch & Rochol are here also following a current trend. In addition, the publishing houses save themselves costly and expensive warehousing.
High-performance digital full color printing with the Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex

"We are delighted that such a renowned provider of printing services as Griebsch & Rochol is jointly opening up new markets for digital full-color printing together with Océ," notes Sebastian Landesberger, Executive Vice President Océ Production Printing. "The Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex system was developed especially for the requirements of the print-on-demand publishing business combining outstanding quality with a maximum of flexibility."

The Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex printer is a high-performance full-color continuous feed system with an outstanding speed of 168 DIN-A4 pages in full color and up to 1,425 pages in black & white. Moreover, the system is extremely flexible, since it automatically recognizes black & white and color pages and adjusts the printing speed accordingly. In the production business, this differentiation permits the creation of attractive cost models and the handling of orders that would not be profitable using conventional printing processes. The Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex can process light grammages just as easily as postcards – no matter whether coated or uncoated materials are used. Océ GraphicArts point modulation, inline color calibration, extended color management – the Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex is equipped with all of the technical prerequisites needed for ultra-sharp reproduction of black & white and color documents.
