Press release from the issuing company

FEDERAL WAY, Wash., Jan. 12 -- The 2004 "Living the Dream Award" will be presented to Esperanza Borboa of Seattle, for "living the dream" of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through her actions and attitude. Her devotion to improving the lives of others has been clearly demonstrated through years of community service and outreach. Ms. Borboa has served in multiple organizations such as Seattle's Managua Sister City Association; the Institute for Community Leadership; Rainbow/Push Coalition; Farmworker Liaison for El Centro de la Raza and United Farm Workers of America; and Concilio for the Spanish Speaking. She has also served on the Central American Task Force for the Church Council of Greater Seattle. She is the co-founder of the Institute for Community Leadership, a racially diverse organization that inspires personal character transformation and lifelong learning. Through her work, Ms. Borboa has touched the lives of uncountable youth who were at risk of being caught in a cycle of violence. Youth receive coaching, guidance and affirmation through non-violent, creative activities that range from poetry to farm work. Youth emerge from the program inspired, transformed and committed to improving their lives and serving the broader community. The Living the Dream Award will be presented to Esperanza Borboa at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration event at Weyerhaeuser's Corporate Headquarters in Federal Way on January 15, from 2:30 to 4:30 PM. This is the 25th year Weyerhaeuser employees have held a celebration in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Since 1995, the celebration planning committee has presented the "Living the Dream" award to an individual in the Puget Sound area who consistently reflected the true meaning of Dr. King's "Living the Dream" speech. The award is accompanied by a $500 donation from Weyerhaeuser to a non-profit organization of the award recipient's choice.
