Adobe FrameMaker 7.1 Now Available to Customers

Press release from the issuing company

SAN JOSE, Calif.--Jan. 12, 2004-- Adobe Systems Incorporated today shipped Adobe FrameMaker 7.1 software, the upgrade to its award winning, enterprise-class authoring and publishing solution. FrameMaker 7.1 offers expanded Extensible Markup Language (XML) file handling and direct document import and migration features providing organizations with a more efficient way of maintaining long, complex documents. FrameMaker combines the simplicity of word processing with the power of Extensible Markup Language (XML), making it easier to repurpose content and publish to multiple channels, including print, Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) and the Web. Importing and migrating technical documents into FrameMaker 7.1 is now easier and faster. With the Conditional Text feature, authors can maintain different variations of a document in a single XML source file. The variations can be controlled and previewed for print and PDF, and can be utilized in XML transformations downstream. Users can also now manage cross-references between XML files. Both features provide greater flexibility in managing and delivering content in XML. "Effective content collaboration in and among companies depends on the growing support for XML," said Tim Hickernell, vice president, META Group. "It is imperative that authoring tools employed in enterprise content lifecycles have the ability to interpret and round-trip arbitrary XML in order to simplify content exchange throughout the content lifecycle." Windows users can expand on previous projects by migrating technical documents created in Adobe PageMaker (versions 6.5-7.0) and QuarkXPress (versions 3.3-4.1) directly into FrameMaker 7.1. With new graphics format support, Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) can be used as a single source for publishing high-quality print vector graphics in printed materials, Adobe PDF, or on the Web. Expanded support for popular graphics file formats simplifies importing Adobe Photoshop files directly into FrameMaker, saving time. "Corporate publishers want to take advantage of the latest and greatest technologies like XML to help them expand their businesses," said Jim Heeger, senior vice president of Creative Professional Products at Adobe. "FrameMaker 7.1 adds superior XML handling and management features and unparalleled integration with other industry leading Adobe products giving customers a leg up by accelerating their workflows." Pricing and Availability Adobe FrameMaker 7.1 for Windows and Sun Solaris(TM) is now available in the United States, Europe and Canada at the Adobe store at www.adobe.com. FrameMaker 7.1, desktop version, for Windows is US$799 for the full version and $199 for the upgrade. On Sun Solaris, the full version is $1,329 and $279 for the upgrade.
