PGSF industry career guide available

Press release from the issuing company

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - The Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation (PGSF) has produced a guide that print producers and other graphic communication organizations can use to help attract new people to the graphic arts industry. "Careers in Graphic Communications" is available for printing and distribution on a local basis. A limited number of finished guides are also available for those not wanting to produce them. The booklet is designed as a primer on the variety of jobs and career choices available in the industry.

"One of the greatest challenges for the graphic arts industry is attracting, then educating, bright young people," noted Ted Ringman, vice president of development at PGSF. "Often we find that career influences are based on old and outdated information of what printing is and what a print shop looks like. Today graphic communications is a highly technical and very sophisticated industry experiencing rapid change. As an industry we need to get the message out to students that there are exciting career opportunities available."

PGSF has CDs available, at no cost, with the PDF files to produce the booklet. The 14-page digest size landscape format piece can be printed on a digital print engine or offset press. Graphic communications organizations are encouraged to produce and deliver the guides to guidance counselors at local high schools and administrators at junior high schools, and should feel free to add their name and logo. The guide can also be used during company tours, open houses, and other events. PGSF has other material available, including an industry overview poster, a scholarship poster, and a school guide listing all American colleges with graphic arts programs. Parties interested in any of the available material can contact Bernie Eckert, program administrator at PGSF, at [email protected] or (800) 910-4283 ext. 740.
