BCPIA mourns Board member's passing

Press release from the issuing company

BCPIA reported the sudden passing of one of long-time Board members, Lorne Patterson of Patterson + Associates. Patterson, 61, suffered a heart attack while at his holiday retreat in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Patterson joined the BCPIA Board of Directors in 1996 and served as Chairman from 2001 - 2003. He also served on several committees, task forces and on two national convention organizing committees in 2001 and 2006. In 2009 Patterson received the CPIA Award of Merit in British Columbia. He was also a Past Vice-Chairman of the CPIA Board of Directors, served as Treasurer on the Board of Directors of the Craft Council of BC and was a Director of the Quality Council of BC.

"Just the Bullets", one of Patterson's favorite phrases is also the name of the column he had written for BCPIA's PressLines for the past several years. He also wrote a regular column "PrintManager" for Graphic Monthly Canada. He recently co-authored a book "Business Networking Techniques that Work" with Kris Bovay and Donna Wilson.

After a lengthy and successful career with Bowne Canada, from which he retired in the position of Managing Director – Financial Print Canada in 2006, he started his own company Patterson + Associates through which he worked with senior management and operating staff in printing companies in Canada, the United States, Europe, and Asia.

"We will miss Lorne a great deal, losing his input and work on the Board won't leave just a hole, it will leave a canyon," said Rob Varnel, BCPIA Board Chair. "He was our lead and guide on many new technologies."

The BCPIA will announce arrangements as they become available.
