EFI Announces Adobe PostScript Integration for Best Proofing Products

Press release from the issuing company

FOSTER CITY, Calif.--Sept. 29, 2003-- Electronics For Imaging, the world leader in imaging solutions for network printing, today announced the integration of Adobe's PostScript into the company's world renowned Best proofing products. This new integration enables EFI to bring its powerful proofing products to the publishing and packaging markets. Incorporating Adobe PostScript 3 makes it possible for EFI's Best proofing line of products to recognize and process PDF/X, PDF/X-1a and PDF/X-3 file formats. PDF/X is increasingly used in print production, especially for the "blind exchange" of digital advertising material, and is gaining acceptance in other printing environments. Additionally, the SWOP organization for publishing standards has designated the PDF/X-1a, and its predecessors, as one of the required file formats for web offset publication. "Adobe's PostScript engine continues to set the standard for delivering the highest quality print results," said Don Walker, general manager of the Publishing Technologies and Services group at Adobe. "EFI's integration of the Adobe PostScript engine as part of its Best proofing products will help deliver consistent, reliable, high-quality output across devices for the publishing and packaging markets." "EFI's Best proofing products with true Adobe PostScript delivers superior color quality, high performance proofing solutions to the professional graphic arts market," said Ghilad Dziesietnik, VP of Workflow Products, EFI. "PDF/X, PDF/X-1a and PDF/X-3 file formats are natural choices for electronic submission of documents enabling EFI's customers to transfer error-free files and speed up their production process." Adobe PostScript provides key file elements that support overprinting, use of custom spot colors for corporate identity, binding and package labeling. Adobe's PostScript engine will be integrated into all future versions of EFI's Best proofing products, including Screenproof, Remoteproof and Designer Edition.
