Xerox Recognizes Printing Innovation At Graph Expo

CHICAGO, Sept. 29, 2003 – Showcasing the benefits and capabilities of digital color printing, Xerox Corporation announced the “Best-in-Show” winner of its Printing Innovation with Xerox Imaging Awards – TBC Color Imaging, of Teterboro, N.J. TBC edged out more than 120 entries in the competition that recognizes innovation and excellence in digital color printing applications in three major categories: variable print / 1:1 marketing communications; short-run digital full color; and digital books and manuals. “The awards demonstrate that our customers are developing revenue-generating applications and pushing the envelope of what can be done with digital printing technology,” said Gil Hatch, president, Xerox Production Systems Group. “The award categories mirror current industry trends and reinforce the power of digital to increase volume, revenue and communication effectiveness.” During Graph Expo, North America’s largest gathering for the graphic arts industry, gold, silver and bronze awards were presented in each category, as well as the overall “Best-in-Show” award. The awards criteria included: overall aesthetics, business effectiveness, use of digital technology and degree of innovation. Scoring highest overall was “Best-in-Show” winner, Robert Logan, CEO of TBC Color Imaging who received a trip to Athens for the 2004 Summer Olympics. TBC’s winning piece excelled in the criteria for its self-promoting, spiral-bound marketing piece aimed at driving new digital printing business for TBC. The promotional piece featured jobs that were once printed on offset, now digitally printed on a Xerox DocuColor iGen3 Digital Color Press. According to Logan, TBC customers couldn’t tell the difference and the application has raised their confidence in digital printing. “In this case, seeing is believing,” said Logan. “When customers realize they can take advantage of quick turnaround time without sacrificing image quality, getting them to transition to digital is easy.” Award winners in the individual categories include: Variable Print / 1: 1 Marketing Communications - SIGMA Marketing Corporation, Rochester, N.Y., received the Gold for its “Sigma Survey Kit” submission, a personalized satisfaction survey used to maintain and improve client relationships - Sir Speedy Printing, Minneapolis, Minn., received the Silver for its “Birth Announcement CD Package” submission, a personalized application designed to creatively announce a new addition to a family - City Blue Imaging Services, Rochester, N.Y., received the Bronze for its “Seeds Packet” submission, personalized seed packets designed to demonstrate variable data capabilities to potential customers Short-run Digital Full Color - LithoTech, Reading, Pa., received the Gold for its “Furniture Catalog” submission, used to introduce a new line of prototype and conceptual business furniture at trade shows - Hume Imaging, Inc., Toronto, received the Silver for its “Hans Engel Artwork Catalog II” submission, a promotional piece designed to attract gallery interest in a new painter - American Greetings Corporation, Cleveland, received the Bronze for its “Employee Recruitment Kit” submission, designed to recruit interns from various colleges and universities Digital Books and Manuals - Kamehameha Schools, Honolulu, Hawaii, received the Gold for its “Educational Books for the Kamehameha Schools” submission, designed to help Hawaiian students learn more about the history and geography of their region - Color Centric Corporation, Rochester, N.Y., received the Silver for its “Glassware Catalog” submission, a high-quality supplement to a large offset campaign - Copresco, Carol Stream, Ill., received the Bronze for its “Four Winds Yearbook” submission, a unique yearbook that showcased the creative spirit of the school The winners were honored Sept. 28 as part Xerox’s “Innovation Celebration” at McCormick Place. This is Xerox’s second year holding the Printing Innovation with Xerox Imaging Awards. The five-judge panel deciding the winners included industry leaders: Ira A. Gold, president, Gold Associates, Inc., contributing editor, Electronic Publishing; Karen Heller, vice president / group creative director, Grey Direct; Barbara A. Pellow, Gannett Professor for Printing and Publishing, Rochester Institute of Technology; David R. Spencer, president / CEO, Spencer & Associates Publishing, Ltd.; and Roy Zucca, owner of ConsultRoy.com and director of Business Development for Impact Workflow Solutions.
