Cancun Communiqué signed by PrintCity Alliance

Press release from the issuing company

The PrintCity Alliance has signed the Cancun Communiqué on Climate Change, following its support for the Copenhagen Communiqué in 2009.
The Cancun Communiqué (www.cancuncommunique.com) is being signed by a wide range of individual businesses and organisations, including the PrintCity Alliance, to help lobby for an agreed worldwide plan on climate change.

PrintCity Alliance members focus on promoting the value of print, as well as achieving high levels of printing & packaging industry efficiency in the areas of carbon emission, energy, sustainability and the environment. PrintCity members believe that paper & board are very sustainable resources and the only media with a onetime carbon emission footprint – electronic media are by comparison energy hungry, due to multiple accesses by consumers.

On signing the Cancun Communiqué, Rainer Kuhn, Managing Director of PrintCity indicated, "PrintCity Alliance members, working in the graphic industry for print & packaging markets worldwide, are concerned about climate change and the way that industries like ours respond to minimise the impact for future generations. Our members individually and working together support the aims of the Cancun Communiqué. We put our name to the document to improve the wider understanding of the issues that face us all across the packaging, commercial and publishing sectors in the graphic industry."

In recent years the PrintCity Alliance membership has been sharing knowledge under their combined 'connection of competence' in this area. Highlights have been:

- Carbon Footprint & Energy Reduction, 2011 – PrintCity Alliance members are preparing to publish their latest environmental and energy report in early 2011

- Sustainability, Energy & Environment Special Report

- Energy Efficiency Optimisation for Web Offset Printers, 2008
