manroland printservices provides retrofit for Grup Segre

Press release from the issuing company

manroland offers a new generation of process computers as retrofits. Together with the latest Interbus technology, they provide better system performance and optimized diagnosis possibilities via Ethernet interfaces using an easy to operate console with state-of-the-art control functions.

Higher product quality and fewer production interruptions: a control retrofit offers much better system performance. This enables further upgrades or closed-loop systems to be integrated perfectly in existing latest generation presses. Combined with Interbus technology and Ethernet communication, the new control with the relevant application software provides improved diagnostics in the printing unit concerned. Faults in modules are precisely located and indicated directly in the display or identified by remote access. The printing system is optimally networked via the Ethernet interfaces, and all data concerning the condition of the pressline or production status is centrally available. Thanks to the adapter board developed by manroland and the pre-installed and checked mounting plate, changeover to the new technology only takes around one day per printing unit. The control console provides operator comfort and also functional advantages. A touchscreen simplifies selection of important functions for better visualization of the printing process and enables the automatic workflow to be coordinated. The printers have a clear overview of their production targets and know the actual inking, dampening and register values. A 19-inch monitor displays production parameters and presetting values and documents messages, press condition and alarms. Faults are easily diagnosed and quickly rectified, if not avoided altogether through early intervention.

Grup Segre: retrofit within one month
The Spanish newspaper printer Lerigraf SL of Grup Segre has upgraded its 1996 UNISET pressline that has ten printing units. Within four weeks, printservices technicians carried out the retrofits one by one during the day, making sure that production could continue as usual during the night: "We are very pleased that the modern control technology has greatly improved the productivity of the pressline and the quality of our products", says Carlos Duran, Technical Manager at Grup Segre. "One notices the leap forward in development particularly with operation at the control console. The training was very helpful in getting familiar with the new procedures. Our printers are most enthusiastic about the central control functions."
