Memphis, Tennessee - FedEx Corp. has been recognized by The International Charter for clear commitment to understanding its environmental impact and reducing it. FedEx is the only company in its industry to receive the Committed to the Environment award.

"We were very impressed with the efforts FedEx is making, in particular with regard to reducing conventional energy consumption, as well as using cleaner vehicles in their distribution fleet," said Steve Fortes, director of International Charter. "FedEx is leading the way in understanding environmental impact and addressing it."

In particular, The International Charter recognized FedEx commitment to the environment as outstanding because:
- The company championed the development of hybrid technology compatible with its delivery trucks, and is believed to have the largest hybrid delivery fleet in the U.S.
- FedEx's EarthSmart @ Work initiative represents a best-in-class program for spreading sustainable thinking through an organization.
- The company has increased FedEx Express vehicle efficiency by 14.1% since 2005, ahead of projections and on schedule for a 20% reduction by 2020.
- The company is making good progress in the fields of renewable energy, and has doubled onsite solar generation to 3.92 MW.
