Domtar Becomes Founding Partner of "Green My Parents"

Press release from the issuing company

To help kids teach their parents about easy ways to save energy, water and waste, Domtar Corporation announced today it has joined the Green My Parents youth movement as a founding partner.

Green My Parents, which was launched on this year's Earth Day, shows kids how their families can save more than $100 a year through efforts such as turning off and unplugging devices that waste electricity, printing responsibly and choosing to walk or bike instead of driving. Based on a new book called "Green My Parents", the goal is to start with 100 kids, each of whom will then recruit 100 more (and so on), ultimately saving more than $100 million by Earth Day 2011. The movement has quickly spread and now includes support from many organizations, including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's ENERGY STAR Program and the National Wildlife Federation and the American Library Association.

Domtar will be the exclusive paper and forestry partner for Green My Parents. It marks Domtar's latest push to promote ongoing forest conservation and environmentally responsible paper products, which have earned the support of respected environmental organizations such the Rainforest Alliance and The Nature Conservancy.

The Green My Parents partnership also follows the recent launch of "Paper Because", a sweeping campaign Domtar developed in part to help highlight paper's value in our lives, and also demonstrate how people should print responsibly.

"For the sake of our planet's future, we need today's youth to help seed the green economy, and it's wonderful how Green My Parents is making kids the Chief Sustainability Officers in their homes," said Lewis Fix, Domtar's Vice-President of Brand Management and Sustainable Product Development. "We're excited to work with Green My Parents and help show how powerful and effective kids can be in bringing about change."

Later this week, Green My Parents will take part in the first Green Schools National Conference to help create environment-focused educational programs and to promote environmental literacy and sustainable schools throughout the country.

"Green My Parents helps families communicate and work together on immediate behavior changes - not big investments - and the payoffs benefit everyone," says Green My Parents founder Tom Feegel. "These are practical ways to make a difference, and that's why we are thrilled that Domtar, which has been at the forefront of responsible paper use, is part of the team."
