MCS announces 8.5" Eagle Print Head as part of 17" printer at Graph Expo

Press release from the issuing company

McCormick Place, Chicago, IL - MCS, Inc., the leader in industrial and mailing inkjet and camera systems, is unveiling another addition to the MCS Eagle Inkjet family. The new 8.5" Eagle Print Head expands the application opportunities for the Eagle to full page printing - and full 17" continuous web printing with two heads on one system.

Dramatically lower costs from direct ink jetting without the need for laser:
- Using the MCS Eagle inkjet, direct mail operations can personalize letters directly from the unwind of roll-fed paper and feed the ink jetted product into cutters, and folders in the bindery - and skip the laser imprinting step.
- The lower cost of ink compared to toner can reduce a typical mailer's variable costs by 40% to 90% depending on coverage.
- Reduced production steps will reduce labor and shorten turnaround times.
- The workflow for reprints and rework is dramatically shortened - as reprints can be queued on-demand without having to send through the IT department.

High production speeds rival roll-fed laser printers and high speed cutters and folders.
- Two-up letter production speeds of 32,000 per hour or 49,000 per hour depending on resolution.
- 375 feet per minute speeds at 400x600 dpi. 250 fpm at 600x600 DPI.
- The Eagle Inkjet system seamlessly matches speeds of existing bindery equipment.

Shorter print-runs and pricing pressures are increasing the need for inline inkjet printing in the bindery.
Inkjet technology offers very low costs - 40% to 90% less than laser - but until now customers could only get viable page width systems on expensive full-press configurations. With the Eagle 8.5" print head, customers can deploy low cost systems without the need of expensive, dedicated presses.

Mailers can now lower their personalization costs - to recapture the dwindling margins from laser production. Moving this production to the bindery department allows quick job changeover which is impossible on large presses.

MCS President and CEO, David Loos, commented on the new 17" printer technology with the Eagle 8.5" Print Head: "There's no question that our customers are interested in full page inkjets to reduce costs." Loos continued: "What the customers are demanding, however, is the ability to adopt full page black and spot color inkjet printing with the pre-printed letterhead and forms required by their customers".

MCS will be in booth 4511 at Graph Expo.
