KBA Report no. 37 out now

Press release from the issuing company

The economic upswing which has been driving the print branch since spring 2010 is placed firmly in the public spotlight in the 37th issue of KBA Report. The corporate magazine of the Koenig & Bauer group was published at the beginning of September with numerous articles on recent investments in new sheetfed and web presses from around the world.

Among the most spectacular projects, mention can be given to a 14-unit medium-format Rapida 106 with inline coating before and after perfecting, which was installed at the U.S. facility of the world's leading playing card manufacturer Cartamundi in Dallas/Texas, a 32-metre Rapida 162a large-format press in a double-coating configuration for Polish packaging printer TFP, and a major contract from Express Newspapers in London involving four KBA Commander CT compact newspaper presses with a total of 22 towers. Another interesting slant is a glance behind the scenes at the Saxon branch of successful German online print company flyeralarm and its partner Druckhaus Mainfranken.

Alongside practice-oriented reports on commercial, book, packaging, plastics and newspaper printers from all over the world, from Egypt via China and Mexico to Sweden or Switzerland, a series of technical articles on current topics, such as energy efficiency and inline colour control, and a presentation of the new 16pp commercial web press KBA C16 add up to an extremely colourful 52-page read. The first of these pages, however, are devoted to a sad occasion for KBA and the whole print branch: An obituary for the former longstanding KBA president and visionary inventor Dr. Hans-Bernhard Bolza-Schünemann, who passed away on 23rd July 2010 at the age of 84. Current president Helge Hansen titles his remembrance of the life and work of one of the industry's most inspired engineers and farsighted entrepreneurs a "farewell to a master of press engineering".

The English edition contains a supplement with an extremely useful glossary on printing inks – not only for printers, but also for sales staff, purchasers and other industry decision-makers. In his typical, readily understandable style, Dieter Kleeberg explains the relevant terminology, effects, applications, interactions, test methods and much more besides.
