SGIA co-instructs first G7 training class for screen printers

Press release from the issuing company

Fairfax, Virginia - M&R Companies successfully hosted the G7 Expert/Professional Training Class at its production facility near Chicago on August 17-19. The class was sponsored by Fujifilm Sericol and presented by SGIA and IDEAlliance. It was the first-ever G7 training class that focused primarily on screen printing.

Instructors Don Hutcheson of Hutch Color and Ray Greenwood of SGIA discussed G7 theory and color management principals using the state-of-the-art M&R Insignia six-color press with films and inks provided by Fujifilm Sericol. In between intense classroom instruction and printing demonstrations, students received a special M&R facility tour, led by M&R Companies CEO and Owner Rich Hoffman. Students also were invited to tour Fujifilm Graphic Systems which included viewing the class test print matched on an Acuity Digital Flatbed Printer and ColorPath Verified with Taskero Universe.

"This was the first G7 training class with content tuned to the needs of the screen printer. The M&R Companies facilities and personnel were excellent, as was the generous support and knowledge shared by experts from Fujifilm Sericol. The ability to print on a brand new M&R Insignia press was a fantastic bonus experienced by all the students. This was a great first attempt and I'm glad to have been a part of it." Greenwood said.

G7 is an innovative calibration methodology developed by IDEAlliance that enables different proofers, screen presses and digital printers to produce a very similar appearance regardless of substrate, line count, ink type or printing condition. This method for a media-independent, universal grayscale appearance is applicable to all color imaging processes.

SGIA will present the educational session, "Understanding the Advantages of G7" at the 2010 SGIA Expo (Las Vegas, October 13-15). A panel of industry experts will discuss G7 methodology and its claims to improve print quality and reduce overall manufacturing production costs.
