IFRA Expo 2010: Tablet publishing made easy by WoodWing

Press release from the issuing company

Zaandam, Netherlands – WoodWing Software, one of the innovation leaders in cross-media publishing solutions for newspaper and magazine publishers, will demonstrate its Digital Magazine Tools 1.4 at IFRA Expo 2010, taking place from October, 4-6 in Hamburg, Germany.

Publishing to tablets like Apple's iPad enables newspaper and magazine publishers to tap new revenue sources, attract new target groups and strengthen the loyalty of their existing readers by combining quality content with an exciting reading experience.

Relying on existing resources
WoodWing's Digital Magazine Tools allow publishers to explore the new scope using their existing resources. The solution is an add-on module for WoodWing's cross-media publishing system Enterprise. The entire solution is built around Adobe CS4 and CS5, so designers don't need to learn special new skills to create the digital publications, resulting in a short learning curve. The tablet issues can also be created in parallel with the print publication.

Tapping new revenue sources
Publishers can explore new business opportunities using WoodWing's Digital Magazine Tools. Not only is there high-quality advertisement space to be sold, but publishers can, for example, enable their readers to directly buy music, books or other products from within the tablet issue and receive commission. The WoodWing Reader App supports in-app purchasing of new issues and can handle a subscription model, as well.

Full flexibility ensures sustainability
Publishers can create a tablet publication once and publish it on various devices, as well. Only the Reader App to display the content on a specific device is different. Reader Apps for future tablet devices will become available when these devices become popular. Enterprise will also support the upcoming Adobe Viewer technology.

A proven solution
"Our Digital Magazine Tools are already a proven solution," said Erik Schut, President of WoodWing Software. "They're in use by a large number of renowned publishers around the world, who create stunning iPad apps of their newspaper and magazine brands. Our Digital Magazine Tools are an integrated part of our cross-media publishing system Enterprise, enabling publishers to produce their iPad apps in a very efficient way – when necessary on a daily basis – just like they do for print." The recently announced new version 1.4 of the tools provides a multitude of new and enhanced features, expanding the creative scope.

Some of the most popular newspaper and magazine titles in the world are already using WoodWing's tools to create their iPad issues, including Time, Sports Illustrated, People, Life and Fortune in the U.S.; the Asian newspapers South China Morning Post and Kompas; Veronica Magazine in the Netherlands, Cosmopolitan in Russia and many more.
