Credit Suisse launches "bulletin" for the iPad

Press release from the issuing company

The integration of vjoon K4 with Adobe Digital Magazine Solution facilitates fast, easy production of professional digital magazines under real-world publishing conditions.

"bulletin", a multiple international award winning customer magazine published by the global financial services provider Credit Suisse, is now also available for the iPad. The deep integration of the Cross-Media Publishing Platform vjoon K4 and Adobe Digital Magazine Solution enabled the service providing agency to deliver the iPad edition very quickly despite its sophisticated design and content. Multimedia features such as 360-degree animation, videos (within the layout or in full-screen format), remarkably diverse picture galleries, live content, hotspots (hyperlinks to websites that open without quitting the app), and the intuitive navigation system also used by the K4 customer WIRED add value and treat audiences to an experience beyond the simple pleasure of reading.

Arnold Inhalt und Form (AIF), a Swiss agency known for its corporate communications and design skills, created and produced the iPad edition of "bulletin". AIF has published the printed edition of the magazine for 13 years. The hardcopy magazine is produced using vjoon K4, so another channel was simply added to the workflow in K4. Now new and existing content can be used repeatedly in all editions, and the entire production flow is process-driven. What's more, editors use the same familiar tools for all editions.

"We had set our sights on two basic objectives: for one, to develop for our readers an advanced tablet edition that makes the most of the iPad's possibilities, and for the other, to go for a professional production process right from the start," notes Lukas Huggenberg, Senior Art Director and IT manager at AIF. "vjoon K4 lets us work in parallel on the print, online, and iPad editions and use the full spectrum of Adobe Creative Suite. Efficient workflows and automated processes running in the background ensure production is smooth and easy, which is perfect for regular publication, especially under deadline pressure." "vjoon K4 supports the Adobe Creative Suite 5 already since May 2010. We are convinced that the combination of CS5 and the Adobe Digital Magazine Solution represents the best tool available for digital publishing. Integrated with K4, it can be used in a professional, workflow oriented production environment. And this is the biggest demand of publishers who are looking for a solution to create digital magazines for the iPad", states Andreas Schrader, CEO of vjoon.

Topix AG, vjoon's Swiss integration partner, provided technical support for AIF's efforts to create the iPad edition. According to Dieter Herzmann, General Manager of Topix, "After an initial wave of euphoria and experimentation, many enterprises now rely on the professional industry standards of Adobe and vjoon for the iPad. To this end, the Adobe Digital Magazine Solution and vjoon K4 offer first-class, long-term investment protection for media companies and corporate publishers." Confident that Adobe technology would set the new standard in digital publishing, vjoon made a conscious decision to go with Adobe.

"bulletin" in motion
The Credit Suisse customer magazine is published five times a year in four languages, with a total circulation of 148,050 copies. It aims mainly to present expert knowledge in a journalistic format to a discerning audience with an interest in its subject matter. The quality of the content owes much to its editors' journalistic independence. Although it is a corporate publication, "bulletin" covers issues beyond banking. Every edition is devoted to a single topic. The latest edition, for example, focuses on mobility. One of the articles – "The Mobile Future" – discusses the capabilities of smartphones. Applications such as QR codes and kooaba's Paperboy service and a cover enriched with "Augmented Reality" bridge the divide between the printed magazine and the digital world.

Appearing shortly after the printed edition, the iPad version of "bulletin" features excerpts from the international version published in English. It is the first iPad magazine to be created outside the USA using vjoon K4 and a beta version of the Adobe Digital Magazine Solution.
