Vio Participates in JDF Workflow Integration Tour at Seybold

September 9, 2003--Seybold San Francisco 2003--Vio Inc., a leading provider of software and network solutions for the graphic arts industry, today announces its participation in the JDF Workflow Integration Tour at Seybold San Francisco 2003. The Tour, regarded as a unique milestone in the graphic arts industry, will showcase the first-ever large-scale, real-time JDF workflow with technologies from Markzware, Vio, Apago, Electronics For Imaging (EFI), Printcafe and Komori. The Tour will demonstrate how JDF works in the real-world environment of digital production, using actual workflow scenarios. Attendees are invited to experience the Tour and discuss their own workflow bottlenecks with vendors. The JDF Tour runs from September 9 through 11 and is located at Moscone West, Level 1. On the surface, the workflow looks like the typical custom solution achieved by interfacing technologies from several vendors. The fact of the matter is, however, that this has all been achieved by the generation, exchange and use of JDF metadata. The multiple systems in this model workflow communicate in a way that could not have been achieved previously, comments Alan Darling, Executive Vice President of Vio Inc. The JDF Workflow The JDF Workflow Integration Tour features a real-world project: a design agency that wants to produce promotional materials with a short-run digital print and offset press run. At the design agency, Markzware MarkzNet will initialize the Internet communication between the design agency and the service provider, preflight the job file according to the provider's criteria, and give the creator instant, onscreen error information. The complete job file, a preflight error report and JDF metadata are then transmitted to Vio. At the agency, the sender fills in the Vio JDF job ticket, which includes the specs for the digital printer. The file is then sent to the Vio cloud with the payload. Once there, the receiver retrieves it from the cloud and passes the process information to Apago. At the print production or prepress service provider, Apago's PDF Enhancer reads Vio's JDF file; automatically corrects any preflighting problems found, such as RGB images; and passes the modified JDF and PDF files to EFI for final production and printing. EFI's Velocity OneFlow automatically displays the job ticket data for possible modification. Using the data in Vios job ticket, it corrects, provides imposition, and sends the job to production on the Fiery-driven Xerox color copier via Velocity Balance. The job status and cost data are simultaneously sent as JDF/JMF to Printcafes Hagen OA. In the print production management office, Printcafes Hagen OA demonstrates the sharing of information between production areas and business management by exchanging real-time JDF/JMF data with both Velocity OneFlow and Komori K-station. It collects time and materials data and provides reports of job costs. It also launches the print job to the Komori offset press via its JDF connector. In the pressroom, Komori K-Station provides bidirectional, JDF-based communication between the MIS, Hagen OA, and Komori presses, including real-time job and press status. This data provides the MIS and print management with the ability to produce comprehensive production reports, which help improve efficiency and increase both throughput and profitability.
