Contac Services Inc. expands offset printing capabilities with manroland

Press release from the issuing company

manroland's Canadian Service Team was chosen to move and install a  ROLAND 504 and a ROLAND 706 press at Contac Services Inc. in Delta, British Columbia. This leader in the distribution industry is expanding with offset printing capabilities to develop themselves as a full service provider, from design and printing to fulfillment and distribution.

For the last 30 years, Contac has been an innovator in direct marketing and fulfillment services. Contac has continually invested to make their facilities first-class in technology and customer service, driving their business to the top of the market and distributing 95% of all travel-related marketing material in Canada.

Building on the company's success in distribution services, they continued to expand into the print arena. As a result of providing seamless integrated print and distribution management services, Contac has experienced exponential growth. To further add to their success, the organization invested in two manroland sheetfed presses. Enhancing their 30,000 square foot facility in Delta, BC, Contac added a ROLAND 500, four unit, 29-inch press with UV capabilities as well as a ROLAND 700, six unit, 40-inch press. "These presses allowed us to offer a whole new suite of products to the market," says Contac's General Manager, Garry Gunter.

The timeline for the move and installation project was extremely aggressive, due to a very short timeline. manroland's Canadian Service Team had only four weeks to move both presses. During those four weeks, they also had to get one of the presses running at full capacity. The manroland Project Management team needed to efficiently manage the personnel slated for the task of moving and installing the two presses to minimize cost.

manroland's team made sure that the presses were going to run at their optimum performance levels. The presses were optimized and enhanced during the installation process, exceeding Contac Service's performance expectations.

"Everything was done within Contac's aggressive timeline. One press was up and running as the other press was being moved in, and assembled. There was minimal downtime for the production operation – and I've never seen this level of continued production during an installation before. No overtime was employed to get the job completed on time! To say this was a phenomenal installation would be a serious understatement" said Gunter.

manroland Service Director Doug Grierson agreed, "This press move and everything we have done on this project, is a great example of the unlimited capabilities at our disposal and our commitment in Canada to our customer base."

Installing the two presses wasn't the only change Contac made in their pressroom. They also decided to run their presses exclusively with the line of manroland's printcom consumables. Gunter explained their decision, "I believe that when a press manufacturer is also your consumables supplier, they are better able to stand by their products and understand your business needs. We toured several plants using printcom consumables, and they all said the same thing – they were happy with the performance of the consumables, and that manroland provided phenomenal support. Since we were doing something new for Contac, it was a huge encouragement to see first-hand the underlying confidence manroland's customers have in their products."

Contac is already experiencing great success with the presses and printcom products – "We are already running one shift at capacity for these presses, and a second shift will be starting this summer." stated Gunter, "Contac is a "people-powered" company, and manroland seems to have the products and support to encourage our great team to further success - in partnership. I cannot verbalize how great an experience it has been to date."
