September 2, 2003 -- The first REGIOMAN training session to be given in the USA will be held at the headquarters of The Daily Herald, the MAN Roland customer of Arlington Heights, Illinois, at the beginning of September. The seminars and practical sessions will be given for employees of The Honolulu Advertiser of Honolulu, Hawaii, where two REGIOMAN systems will commence operations at the beginning of 2004. The REGIOMAN is the most popular newspaper press in the USA. Fifteen out of the thirty eight-page double-wide systems sold since the REGIOMAN’s market introduction have gone to the USA, comprising a total of 484 printing units, 75 reel splicers, and 15 folders. Commissioning these systems is necessarily linked to a comprehensive training program that presents tasks of growing complexity to MAN Roland training experts as they implement and coordinate the individual training units. After all, mechanical technicians, electricians, and prepress specialists have to be well prepared to work on the new REGIOMAN. The idea of a Training Center dedicated to practical operations on a REGIOMAN was born last year during a series of consumables tests for US American REGIOMAN customers at MAN Roland in Plauen. The first training session will begin on September 8 this year in Arlington Heights for eight specialists from The Honolulu Advertiser, which is printed on a REGIOMAN. The specialists will have eight days to familiarize themselves with the latest MAN Roland technology. The training program, prepared by William Reiser (MAN Roland USA), and Michael Müller (MAN Roland, Plauen), focuses on mechanical aspects and overall handling of the new system. Thus, there are no language barriers to deal with, and travel times are shorter. Training is realistic because it takes place on a real REGIOMAN, and the experience of working press operators is always at hand. Depending on the situation and need, courses tailored to operations, specific components, and individual customers can all be offered in Arlington Heights.
