Torraspapel's Leitza Mill achieves highest environmental certification in Europe

Press release from the issuing company

In keeping with its history of environmental leadership, all the manufacturing sites of Torraspapel, part of the Lecta Group, have passed the strict environmental review stipulated by the EMAS environmental regulatory scheme.

The last plant to secure the certification was the mill in Leitza, Spain, devoted to the production of specialty papers. As a result, all of Torraspapel’s product lines of – coated paper and uncoated paper, pulp, carbonless, metallized, cast-coated, thermal and selfadhesive paper – now hold ISO 9001 quality certification, EMAS and ISO 14001 environmental management certification, and PEFC and FSC chain-of-custody forest certifications.

The Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) is a voluntary system that promotes continuous improvement in the environmental performance of public and private organizations through the implementation of an environmental management system; the systematic, periodic and objective evaluation of this system; the communication of environmental information, establishing an open dialogue with the public and stakeholders; and training and active involvement of employees in improving environmental performance. It is a system based on the ISO 14001 environmental management standard, requiring in addition the elaboration of an environmental statement verified by an external auditor and made available to the public.
