The Challenge Machinery Company displays offerings at Ipex

Press release from the issuing company

Norton Shores, MI – Since Challenge first started making equipment in 1870 they have been recognized as the leader in applying technology in innovative ways in the development of products for print finishing operations, both for traditional print processes and for digital printing applications.  Challenge continues this tradition with the current generation of product offerings, which will be proudly displayed at IPEX:

As in the long history of products before them, all Challenge products are known for their durability, their extremely user-friendly operation, and for being highly reliable…. to effectively handle a wide variety of finishing projects.  Since 1887, when Challenge first started building paper guillotines, they have embodied these traits.  Ranging in size from 40 cm to 94 cm, Challenge cutters present several unique features that help reduce maintenance requirements, increase operator safety, and increase production efficiency.

The 67.3 cm Titan 265 is a powerful addition for any organization.  Cast-iron and steel construction provides maximum durability.  UHMW gib surfaces, composite bushings, and a 25mm thick solid metal table surface (optional air main table) require virtually no maintenance for years of trouble-free operation.

The intuitive menu-driven touch-screen XT controller allows up to 47,000 cut position storage.  Advanced label cutting and sheet division programming allows for even the most novice operator ease in programming complex tasks in multiple languages.  Industry-leading electronic clamp pressure control can be programmed for each cut within a job, thereby reducing potential waste.  The Titan 265 is CE & UL listed.

The CMT 130 is the latest addition to our print-on-demand perfect-bound book trimmers.  The sturdy steel and cast-iron design of the CMT 130 ensures years of trouble-free operation.  Hydraulic clamping and cutting action provides the necessary force to cut through up to 5 cm thick books without hesitation.  Standard features such as UHMW gib surfaces, composite bushings, and stepper motor technology require virtually zero maintenance.

The modularity of the CMT 130 provides added possibilities for future growth within your organization.  The CMT 130 can be configured as a hand-feed off-line trimmer, add a high-capacity feeder and high-capacity stacker for unattended, near-line trimming, or add the advanced infeed and cooling elevator for true in-line finishing capabilities.

The intuitive menu-driven controller allows variable mode data entry with up to 99 job storage. Swift size changes occur in approximately 10 seconds with no tools required. Machine self-diagnostics and error prompts gives the operator direction for corrections when necessary.  Third party control via serial communications allows integration of bar code readers/size change apparatus.  The CMT 130 is CE & UL listed.

Since 1930, Challenge has been known for its robust hollow-spindle paper drills.  The MS-5 continues this proud tradition with a foundation of cast-iron and steel.  Powerful hydraulics allows for trouble-free operation for many years to come.  The MS-5 utilizes up to 5 drilling heads that can be quickly repositioned for different hole patterns.  Drilling capacity is an impressive 63 mm, and the external waste chute and storage is easy to empty.

Challenge continues our 140-year tradition as the premiere American paper guillotine and paper drill manufacturer.  Our legacy of producing innovative products for the ever-changing print market, first-class technical support, and long-term resale value will continue to provide our customers the assurance they made the right decision!
