RR Donnelley Bolsters E-Learning With NetApp Enterprise

Press release from the issuing company

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--Aug. 26, 2003-- Network Appliance, Inc., a leading provider of enterprise network storage solutions, today announced that RR Donnelley, a leading printer of graphic arts and provider of related services, has deployed a NetApp Enterprise Content Delivery Network (ECDN) solution, based on NetCache appliances and DataFabric Manager software, to advance its company-wide e-learning initiatives. RR Donnelley will use the NetApp ECDN solution to improve employee productivity and reduce IT management costs by providing data-intensive, rich-media capabilities that enhance and expand internal education and communications on a variety of training topics to its 15,000 users at the corporate headquarters and 26 remote sites. RR Donnelley needed a simple and cost-effective solution to improve corporate communication and employee training without the complexity of intense administrator management or lengthy lag times to access rich media. By distributing and caching e-learning streaming content using the NetApp ECDN solution, RR Donnelley is able to improve Web-training applications by scaling its network and server infrastructure, moving its video content closer to end users, and minimizing its bandwidth costs. "As a leader in the global graphic arts industry, we need to remain focused on our customers' priorities, and to do so we must continue to develop tools that help us optimize business processes and achieve business goals more quickly," said Richard Guetzloff, senior director of Enterprise IT at RR Donnelley. "E-learning is a powerful business tool for us, and the NetApp ECDN solution is the most robust and cost-effective way for us to deliver e-learning to the broadest range of employees. Our NetApp ECDN is highly scalable and easy-to-manage, and enhances our data infrastructure without affecting application performance or the availability of our business-critical systems." "RR Donnelley needs compelling solutions to meet and exceed their business objectives," said Amit Pandey, vice president and general manger, content delivery business unit at Network Appliance. "As a result of choosing NetApp, RR Donnelley is able to leverage its existing infrastructure and significantly reduce e-learning project costs, allowing IT staff to spend less time on fire drills and more time on strategic business needs."
