Greenerprinter to be recognized for exemplary environmental practices

Press release from the issuing company

Berkeley – Greenerprinter has been selected to receive Acterra's 2010 Business Environmental Award in the category of Pollution Prevention/Resource Conservation for a Small Company.

Acterra's Business Environmental Awards is one of the San Francisco Bay Area's oldest and most prestigious environmental recognition programs. Initiated in 1990, it is considered a heavyweight among award programs due to its rigorous application and judging process. "Our awardees must demonstrate their environmental commitment and achievements through a careful vetting process," states Board President Laura Teksler. "In addition to a thorough written application, the top contenders must demonstrate their programs' merits firsthand to the judges during a visit to the applicants' facilities. By the time they are selected to receive our award, they have truly proven that their programs are "setting the bar" in corporate environmental leadership."

The Acterra Business Environmental Award judges recognized Greenerprinter's leadership in the printing industry. "Greenerprinter is making its operations as waste-free as possible and educating both its suppliers and customers to do the same," said Walt Hays, Judging Team Captain, Business Environmental Awards. "By using electronic proofs, high post-consumer recycled paper, and low VOC ink, the company is taking a lead in greening a traditionally inefficient industry. It regularly seeks to educate and exchange ideas with customers and peers at industry events and via social media outlets. Because of these efforts, we are pleased to recognize Greenerprinter for its environmental leadership in the printing industry."

Greenerprinter has implemented a lean manufacturing system throughout the printing process by identifying process improvements, leveraging technology, and working with suppliers. The company's environmental practices have been verified and audited by reputable third parties, and Greenerprinter is currently the only printer in California to be certified both through the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership and as a B Corporation. It also maintains certifications from the Bay Area Green Business Program and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

CEO Mario Assadi described the company's mission of implementing green practices as an ongoing process: "We are pleased to receive the Acterra Business Environmental Award for our work to minimize pollution and waste in the printing process," Assadi said. "It is important to us to make our printing as sustainable as possible, and we will continue looking for ways to advance green printing."

Greenerprinter will be honored at the 2010 Business Environmental Awards Reception on Thursday, June 3rd at the Crowne Plaza Cabana Hotel in Palo Alto.
